Itās also worth notingā¦ I found out thatā¦ while the Elear and Elex do use the same driver, they have different dampening appliedā¦ (Like 58x vs 660s) so have to take that into consideration when buying user refurbsā¦ to make sure they source proper Elex drivers and arenāt mixing them with the Elear drivers.
Makes some sense, but they also do not sell in Europe, which keeps the 2nd hand market prices up a bit still.
Headphones do also not just keep dropping when they get older, they do stabilize at a specific price even if the headphones are easily available
yeahā¦ HD 800 and 800 s are good examples of that.
Probably even could get my money back on sell or minor loss. Since they get heavy taxing and shipping fees usually.
Seems like someone has a very narrow picture of markets.
Well how did it turn out?
After about 1 months of use, no words can describe how much I hate the original cable of the Elex.
So stiff, always tangled. Itās horrible.
I, myself, am waiting on my periapt cable to arriveā¦ But canāt stress it enough for new buyer, invest in a aftermarket cable before you go crazy! Lol
Big agree. Looking forward to my HartAudio cable to arrive. I do like the color of the stock cable cause it matches my spdif so I got a similar one!
Perfect. The Elex is so clean, balanced, and detailed. Klipsch amp/DAC is a pleasure to use. Powers the Elex easily = low gain at about 10-11 o clock is the sweetspot. Klipsch does well even with my new Argons (mk 2? Not the newer mk 3). Power is there.
Switches are the most satisfying thing ever. I use powered fluance desktop speakers and it is so nice to simply flip a toggle switch to move between speakers and headphones. I donāt have to fiddle with volume levels when I switch either. I use the āpassthroughā (? Canāt remember the exact term) setting to allow the speakers to maintain their own volume setting, which cuts the Klipschās knob position out the equation for the powered monitors.
Before the Klipsch I hunted for so long to have a amp/DAC that would allow me to seamlessly switch between headphones and speakers with no extra steps. I can leave my headphones plugged in with no worry.
I use the setup for gaming on occasion and the wireless modmic fits the bill amazing well. Super convenient.
Overall, Elex is beautiful, Klipsch is beautiful, plenty of power, a very clean and detailed sound. I also run almost all my headphones balanced, so I canāt testify confidently on unbalanced performance.
Let me know if you want to know anything specific.
Sorry if someone else has already asked, but whatās with all those listings of only one driver working? What is causing those?
nice, did you find out what happened to the other driver?
It works, but it seems to be āstuckā. Like the mobility of it seems to be having issues. Might be an issue with the magnet or voice coil. Or maybe it just needs to be cleaned. May try messing with it later to see if itās fixable.
Cool! im very interested if you can get it working again. will you keep me posted?
Sure, of course. =)
I have not looked carefully at the 2nd broken driver I have, but the first broken driver, which was completely non-functional was broken due to a burnt out voice coil. Basically a piece of the copper material was completely ācharredā/āburnt blackā as-if it was over-driven
So its the amplifier that blew it? Can it be repaired?
Itās hard to say, I donāt know. It could have been the amplifier, maybeā¦ the driver is completely gone/broken, as the driver and voice coil are basically āone pieceā on the focal headphones. Only the magnet is still goodā¦ which I have sitting on my wall now. Lol
Reading through some of the drop reviews, this seems to be a common issue with one of the drivers going bad. Was just curious as to why this might be.
It really only popped up in one batch. The driver clipping with bass at very loud volume is a known issue but it really seems that there have only been one batch with the drivers dying.
