🔶 Focal Elex

Anyone notice how the Elex has an “M” shaped driver and a “W” shaped sound signature? Hmmmm, coincidence?

my god, i never realized…

If you buy a used pair of these, does the warranty transfer over?

A pair of Dekoni Pads?

If that’s what you’re asking, I don’t know. But just don’t mention it if you have to make a warranty claim.

No, the only way to get a proper warranty is by buying directly from Massdrop.
If you are buying from the original owner and you trust them enough, you could arrange for them to take care of the warranty for you as well.

I probably didn’t phrase that right. I mean to find a solution for getting the same earcups attached to som headband that lets the cups swivel.

Ah, well I have not found a way to remove the earcups from the original headband non-destructively, but I’ll take a look at it again later. I’m sure, if you got the earcups of the Elex off, you could definitely apply it to another headband. They do already swivel about 15 degrees in either direction already, though, but I assume you want more than that?

Yeah I have found that it never evenly distributes weight around my ears, also I sometimes can’t seem to find a balance between fit and hold. I prefer the Sennheiser/many other brands clamp style to the fixed Focal clamp.

Ah, have you tried sitting the headband more forward on your head? More towards the forehead, not so much the ‘crown’ peak of your head. I’ve found the fit will feel odd if you place the headband too far back on your head, causing the earcups to sit off angle on your head.

I have tried that but it’s still not quite right. I think the issue somewhat stems from me having a small head. It is what it is :joy: lol

But yeah because of that I prefer a clamping swiveling headset, but I love Focal so…damn. lol

I was about to ask Giova of he just whipped up that angle chart himself.

Then I remembered his profession, and how impressed I was the last time I visited his website.

Relaxing at home listening to the good ol’ trusty Elex after spending the day listening to audio systems worth 3-4 times its price and happy to say that I don’t feel like I’m missing out as much as I previously thought. The elex definitely holds its own. Albeit, the listening conditions at canjam aren’t nearly as optimal as a quiet home, but still nice to have a better point of reference instead of the mythical ‘hifi’ that I only see through my monitor. All together super cool experience at my first ever audio event. DMS and Z are super cool peeps

hah, I do have a large cintiq tablet monitor, which makes it pretty easy to just draw over stuff. :stuck_out_tongue:

Got my Elex’s today. I wanted to give them a few hours to get to room temperature. I went into the office where I am ripping DVD’s (and will be for weeks and weeks and weeks…). If I try to also play music the computer gets unbearably slow.
So, my first experience with the Elex’s is using the 3.5 jack in my Sony NW-ZX300 DAP. Focal cable with 1/8" adapter. My DAP was in high gain and I had to drop it down to low gain. I didn’t bother with my 4.4mm balanced cable as I want to test it out completely basic.

It sounds good, has lots of clamp and the ear cups feel like they might get warm in the summertime. They are not wowing me right out of the box like many of my other headphones have. It is nice and clear and there is bass where there is supposed to be bass. I would describe the overall sound as subtle.
Curious to see how it will sound tomorrow in the system with the same DAP feeding my SMSL SU-8 and then running them through several amps.

As other have said, the presentation/box is very nice. The cables seem fine for lazy-boy listening. Now for a week of burn-in, mostly my brain and maybe a little bit of the headphones.

It’s more getting used to it mentally lol, hopefully with more extended listening they really start to get good to you

Do you read my post as I’m typing it?
Sometimes I will post and you will like it about 5 seconds later. Or are you the world’s fastest reader?

Yes, it will take some getting used to. It doesn’t sound like anything else I own. Which is great for a guy obsessed with variety.

I’m just quick lol. Yeah I read it lol. The t5p.2 might be the closest headphone you have to it but I don’t think it’s that similar

I was thinking the same thing. But not quite as sharp and it does have sufficient bass.
