đŸ”¶ Focal Elex

I’ve tried that with the ZMF Universe Suede. It changed the sound too much, to where it was something that I wasn’t a fan of. I don’t quite remember what changed exactly, but it sounded like a completely different headphone. If you don’t mind experimenting, it might be worthwhile project. Definitely try to use nylon as the material.

Awesome will try thanx

Have any of you tried the new fantasia cable

Looks decent??

I have a couple of New Fantasia cables in the drawer and they seem fine to me. With the Elex, I just use the stock cables.

I have that cable - works with my Meze 99, Focal Elegia and HP-3. No problems with it.

All out China cable but will work.

So I have the Elex for almost a month now, noticed a nice sound quality jump going to the D10 for a DAC. Strange thing with the Elex I cant find their limits. Every now and then they still wow me like the first time. EDM on the Elex is fantastic, not sure who said EDM wont work but for me its amazing. Now just saving up for the Asgard . Will the D10 be a better choise compared tot the AKM 4493 module?

They really are. i also get the ‘wow’ time to time and “these sound really really good”.
I’m totally satisfied with them. No need to upgrade.

Def, i see no other headphone on my desk in the next couple of years. Now just the Asgard 3 and maybe a nice R2R dac.

Quick question, is it possible to use a 3.5mm to dual rca cable on a phone to an amp?

Yes, but you are essentially double amping and the sound may not be that great. I did that for a while until I bought a DAC.

One of the things I liked about the Atom
has a 3.5 mm input.
Used that from my phone and chromebook headphone out, until
I got my e30 dac.

Do they still have the clipping sound issue with these? If they didn’t I would consider the elex, elegia or clears.

It just seems to be volume related. I am a relatively quiet listener, so it has been no problem at all.

However, if you trying to destroy your hearing over the long haul, they are probably not a good choice.

Well I might go with these or the elegia this holiday then.

In real world use, I doubt you would be getting clipping issues unless you really want to damage your hearing

The clipping in the Elex is not an actual issue, or to better phrase this; The clipping is not a design defect. All focal headphones are meant to be listened to at medium to low volumes. Both the Elex and Elegia sound much worse when you crack up the volume.

I wonder if also
I always hear a Bladerunner_2000 track being used as the test for the Elex clipping
and the track sounds clipped on the original recording near as I can tell. Evidence of the Elex “detail” in the bass, rather than any inadequacy of the headphone!

So the Elex does clip, the actually driver will clip if you play bassy music too loud. The song Mountains on the Interstellar soundtrack will make this clear. My point wasn’t that the Elex do not clip but that it was designed that way and was not a defect. If you really want to hear low bass notes you should look at Planar headphones, like the Sundara or Ananda.

I didn’t think you were saying it didn’t clip. I’ll have to listen to Mountains loud I guess. Never want to hear it again given how often it’s been used as a test track though, lol. (And realistically — as you suggest — I don’t crank the volume all that high when listening to headphones, normally).

Bladerunner_2000 has clipping on the recording though. The other over-suggested test track.
