Itâs back on sale but the reviews give me a bit of a stomachache and I can only join the community.
At this price, there really shouldnât be any driver failure, as great as it is, I would beat it if you didnât read something like that.
When ordering on Drop I think you can make a comment.
There you can try to indicate which shipping service you prefer and hope that you read and implement it.
When I ordered my Fostex it went to Oops and really blew it.
When I ordered the Hifiman and the Emu Purpleheart I wrote when possible sent with Dhl and it worked.
You are not given any options with Fedex smart post. Only the shipper can change the address which Drop would not do. You can not even have it held at a location. Itâs another issue they should resolve. There is no defending that they sent me a used untested and broken pair as a replacement.
Well of course not and again it should be discussed in other topic.
Havenât had any experience with Fedex Smart Post.
(i could ask from both companyâs how this should work but i dont need to) The thing what is kinda weird.
Drop mentions "Weâre unable to reroute packages that have already been shipped. Should you need to change the address for a package thatâs in transit, you can attempt to contact the courier directly to set up an alternate delivery address.
Please note: We canât guarantee that a courier will be able to change the delivery address for a package in transit. In the event theyâre unable to assist you, the package will likely be bounced back to our warehouse. If this occurs, youâll need to contact Drop Support."
And Fedex mentions: "FedEx can reroute a shipment if it is authorized by the sender. Only one reroute per package is allowed."
In youâre case. It should be ok by Drop to change the address and did you ask Fedex to change it or you even ask it? But any package i f-up the address, It has always been possible to change it by contacting the Currier service.
Anyways they have a process for wrong address. Package goes back to Drop Warehouse â you contact Drop Support and get the address right.
Itâs a totally different thing if you do not like the process and it is slow. Iâd bet it still works.
This is true, replacement should be new or at least fully functioning.
1st: You are misunderstanding the shipping problem. I told Drop about the address change the same time I told them that the 1st pair failed. It was Dropâs fault. I also called Fedex and was told what I told you in this thread. 2nd: It is very relevant to this thread as Drop is the only place you can buy the Elex and people should know that Dropâs customer service can be horrible. I am also not the only person Drop has sent used broken Elex replacements to. Please look at the Elexâs comments and review pages on Dropâs own site.
I know the return policy and RMA.
So from the information you provided, you made a mistakeâŠ
Policyâs need to be precisely followed for them to work.
Wrong. My replacement wasnât in transit. I told them to ship to a different address when I told them the 1st pair had failed, before shipment, before I even took them to UPS to be sent back.
I havenât bought anything there yet, but I believe they do. I quoted some equipment with them and they ship worldwide. Itâs just somewhat expensive but, as a Brazilian, Iâm used to it. According to their customer service, the warranty still stands for international shipping.
But, I will say, there were some open-box deals that the shipment option didnât appear to me. Donât know if itâs a limitation to Openbox deals or a bug in the website.
So depending on what breaks, there is good change both are mendable.
With a big hammer or something smaller like soldering if you are not complete dumm dumm or with a good local electronic fixing company.
Thing is that this effectâs also other Focal headphones as well, so not just blaming on Drop alone. There are issues in Focal factory assembly. More or less same shit like Hifiman.
Itâs not complete loss, that is a key thing.
Hi guys, just ordered the Elex last night and starting to have some concerns. They seemed like a steal at the time of purchase after watching the raving reviews. Now that Iâve seen the reports of QC issues I am having some concerns. Do you guys think they are worth the $550 price or should I look towards something else. New to this hobby and my current set up is a 4xx running off a magni heresy and D10 DAC. Hoping for a significant upgrade, any advice is appreciated.
I donât think Iâd worry about it until (if) itâs an issue. A lot of this stuff is subjectiveâlisten to it and if you like it keep it and enjoy it. If not, sell it or send it back. Iâd withhold judgement for yourself. The general consensus is the Elex is a phenomenal headphone. Iâve owned 2 Focal headphones (granted for shorter periods of time), but I have had no issues.
Is the broken voice coil mendable? Like, will a more robust one change the sound, or is this just a wire that can be replaced ? (Sorry for my ignorance. Iâve read that not all Focals have a voice cool this thin⊠the Clears for example have a less delicate one)
I like the Elex a whole lot; Iâm finding your post reassuring now, for the future of them!
There is a change at least and those were told as the weak spots. Cannot say for sure of course.
Some have been able to repair their units with no added noise or issues.
One poster i found did a repair job one the right side and few weeks later owner told the left side failed so he repaired that as well. Was a pain in the dick as Zeos would say but he managed.
Itâs hard to tell how big an issue the failure rate is now. On Dropâs site about 10% of the reviews mention it and most of the recent comments are about the problem. When I said these were gamble earlier, I was referring to Dropâs customer service. Either you have a fine experience with them or they treat you like garbage. I wouldnât buy anything from Drop till they open a call center. There are just to many flaws to having an email only customer service.
Got it. I am not sure how much of a pain I could induce someone to withstand should I have to ask them to repair my set. I know I couldnât do it myself, at least with current lack of skills. Still⊠I have had no problem so far with my own Elex, and will hope that continues! Thanks for the pics and words.
Should absolutely not be in the price range of headphones.
Somewhere a real mess in my eyes and the price not justified.
Whatâs bad is that Focal doesnât even improve but continues to do so.
Should I consider a upgrading my amp/dac set up for the ELEX? I hear that it is considerably better to run it balanced. Currently running a heresy+D10, but have considered getting an endgame amp/dac combo for a cleaner set up. Or a well matched stack like magnius and modius. What do you guys think? Also streaming music from TIDAL, but not sure if MQA is worth it.
