How much do you want for it? I was planning on modding a detachable cable to mine, but Iām not the handiest, would be good to have a replacement ready.
I was rushed because the buyer seemed to be wanting it immediately but you know how that goes sometimesā¦ Iāll keep you in mind but Iāll keep them for the time beingā¦ I cant rely on m0ns ears for everything after all lol
No worries, Iām not in any hurry.
how would I go about cleaning the mesh?
Havenāt bought it yet, pictures are from a guy selling it used. Itās a Grado SR60 going for 40$.
Would using something like methylated spirit (95% alcohol) and cotton/tissue to wipe it possibly damage the drivers?
got a friend with these too, much dirtier since its been in their attic. Wonder if theyāre replaceable instead?
I think the alcohol method you mentioned should be fine but I worry that the color of the mesh would be more gross lol
hope it cleans well, if itās still available.
SR60, not the i.
Bought used for 40$. Seller had it for 10 years or so, sat in the drawer most of the time.
Cleaned the mesh easily with some rubbing alcohol. Came with a case and two new pads.
Added some electric tape to parts of the cable where it bends/twists, hopefully itāll add some support to it. Cable still in great condition considering itās 10+ years old, only a small crack in the rubber near the Y split.
Listened to Mansur Brown - God Willing and Mashita, Chon - Perfect Pillow, Dew. Sounds great!
My last pair of headphones for now, I swear.
I decided to dust off my SR60i and listen to them again since I havenāt for a while. (Partly because I saw them in Zeosā 2020 wall video and it made me want to go back to them.) These were the ones that started it all for me and I remember why I like them. And now that Iāve purchased a few headphones that are a little higher tier I feel like I can appreciate them more for what they do well. I also decided to purchase the GS1000 pads and try them out to see how they effect the sound and comfort. They should get here next week.
the one thing i keep hearing about grado is they are best for guitars and natural instruments but things like bass and synths its just not that good for so i didnāt buy them, i was tempted by a guitar strum feeling amazing but i didnāt know
Is there any difference between the SR80e and SR80i? I was thinking of purchasing a pair of these
The e is the newest generation, with the i being the previous. The e is also apparently a little more laid back with a little better bass. Donāt recall which I demoed, but found them without much body. Perhaps as a specialist for things like guitar and strings, it has its place. Not for me, though, as I also found it very uncomfortable on ear.
I like the pad on the E. Its just regular like a koss. i dont like the foamy scratchy cone flange pads on the other Grado models
Yeah I would use these for acoustic music and rock (especially classic rock). Those two things make up a good chunk of my average listening so the Gradoās still have a place for me. I was actually surprised when I listened to them the other day though because they definitely had more bass than I remembered. They still have a nice full sound, they just wonāt rattle your teeth with bass or anything like that. And they are as open as can be. No sound isolation and they bleed sound like crazy. But it gives and interesting effect when you are listening to the music because everything feels so open. Like I said, they arenāt going to be my daily driver, but I like having them around to change things up every once in a while.
The scratchy cone flange ones are the ones I just got. Haha! We will see how it goes.
I think the knockoffs may actually be better than the official ones.
Yeah these are the ones Zeos linked so Iām hoping so. I also have one of these attached which helps the comfort immensely! It is cheap and itās started cracking underneath but it is so pillowy, and I honestly donāt hate how it looks with the snaps on top. Curious if I could use a Beyerdynamic headband pad though for something more durable.
I like the Sr80 over the SR60 cause i hear the 60 has treble that some may find painful. Are they that much different from each other? I saw in the forum link above that SR80 was graded above the SR60. How much better is it? Is it better?
I havenāt heard both so I canāt comment on the 80i. I just remember back in the day when I got the 60iās I was looking for the cheapest way to get into quality headphones and they were what I landed on. Back then the extra $20 or $30 for the 80iās would have been a bigger deal to me.
I would say the treble on the 60i can be described as bright but I donāt usually find it harsh. I also own the DT770 250 ohm and I would say itās comparable in treble forward-ness. But the openness of the headphone makes it feel a little less aggressive to me. I also usually listen at what I think are relatively low volume levels because I listen for long sessions and I donāt want to do damage to my hearing long term. Iāll do a little A/B today with the DT770 and try to compare the treble.
The sr60e and sr80e are the same exact headphone, same exact driver. The only difference is driver matching (0.10 vs 0.05). I modded Grados for 6 years and am very familiar with their drivers. Other perceived differences is just manufacturer variance. Grado doesnāt use any measurements to tune headphones, so variances are effected by this.
Also, the g cush pads make the entire prestige series sound like shit, so I personally would not recommend them at all, unless you want a headphone that has no bass and no lower mids.
