šŸ”¶ Grado SR60e / SR80e

You should maybe consider the Hemp LTD Edition. They are a bit more bassy and have smoother treble than other Grados. They are $420 and worth every penny.

These look interesting. The smoothed out treble and added bass is very appealing.

I’ve been tempted since I saw the release, may just have to…

The best part is that the timber is the most natural I’ve heard. These make well recorded acoustic music sound damn near like a live performance. My favorite album so far is KODO Heart Beat. I would recommend anyone with Grados give it a listen.

You had me at Natural Timbre…

My Lawton modded Fostex TH610’s are the most natural timbre I’ve ever heard. I actually sold my very good pair of LCD-X because I wasn’t using them any longer.

I’m going to have to seriously consider these. It’s also nice that Grado offers a balanced cable version (albeit at an excessive up-charge).

Thanks for the info!

Cheers!

If you are willing to read a VERY long post, go check the official thread I linked. I wrote up a full review and did a lot of comparing with my X00 PH since they are both around the same prices.

Can confirm the 60’s highs are more there but the 80’s have more oomph, glad to have both but now scared I need to collect the whole set

Can confirm on the Beyer headband

Wait whoa, the red is the 80? Hmmm

That seems like it might be mislabeled. Everything I’ve heard says the 60 are less bass and more highs while the 80 are more bass and less highs (compared to each other). That graph is the polar opposite. I don’t know, I can’t find a graph that compares them or really even individual graphs from the same source for that matter, so I might be wrong.

Exactly what I’m hearing as well

Not me, I’ve heard and seen the 60s having more bass and less treble. It doesn’t matter either way as they both are great. Fun and easy to mod as well.

Also and fyi…that graph is from headroom. Tyll Hertsens used to work for headroom and setup their measurement rig right before he left for innerfidelity.

This must be the unit variance you talk about, I am absolutely hearing less bass and more highs from the 60, what are your thoughts on the 125 and 225? In your experience

I wonder how Tyll and Put are doin nowadays

The 125, 225 and 325 arent worth it. They are all brighter than the 60s and 80s. I personally think the ps500e and rs2e are the next step up in the grado line that sound great and are worth it. The new Grado Hemp is interesting too.

I was thinkin Hemp next, just curious at this point, super shocked how good these are for the price

I still can’t help but be a little curious, just because some people have variously claimed the SR125 or SR225 as a sweet spot. But… I haven’t heard them and really would be more likely to try the Alessandro MS-2, which have a rep for being priced a little better and also less tizzy highs. (I have the MS-1 and prefer it to the SR80 at least!)

I only know the RS-1 , old school edition, and a couple of the ā€œHead-Fiā€ special editions. The HF-2 being most similar to the PS500 (but still different) from what I understand, and the HF-3 like an ā€œalmost-ā€œ RS-2e.

And now I have to wonder if the Hemps are a somewhat better and very slightly less expensive RS-2e, which is essentially what one forum review said.

So many headphones… so little money to try them all…
