Ye when I talk about bass or the sound my reference is the harman curve aka the curve RTINGS use so by that both of them roll off in the subbass.
From what I’ve seen the 58x is really flat but with a small dip at 5k and a small bump at 10k which I am totally fine with, while the 4xx has the usual peaks at 7k and 10k which gives it a difusse field sound
RTINGS doesn’t use harman, they use their own house compensation on their graphs. The 4xx is not difusse field either in practice
they do use a modified version of Harman which is very accurate to how headphones sound based on the headphones I’ve had and comparing them to RTINGS they sound exactly as the graphs show
I don’t agree with that but that’s fine, but I’m not a graph or measurements person anyway. Their target is fairly modified imo, to the point where I don’t think I would call it harman anymore
Fair, anyway my point is that the 4xx seems to have everything including subbass extension if you EQ or bass boost since they can handle that cuz they are planars and soundstage compared to the 58x which have a narrow soundstage.
So thats pretty amazing for the price!!
That’s why I am thinking of getting them, but if they dont fit me (the headband), I would be ok with the 58x as well I guess
It’s definitely my top pick for a budget planar out of what I own and what I have tried, v shaped, subbass is great, and plenty of detail. Soundstage is large and layering is pretty good for the price. Not as good midrange as other headphones but that’s because of the tuning. Also with an amp eq is no problem and they respond pretty well
Ye, that sounds great altho I wouldn’t say they are V shaped, seems rather like a flat headphone with a treble boost but the boost is not in an area that would be problematic for me so thats fine
They have a somewhat recessed midrange when listening to them, partly because of their presentation
Hmm, they dont measure with a recessed midrange but I can see why you’d say that compared to the sennheiser they do have a comparatively recessed midrange(not by much tho like 2-3db)
If you want subbasss extension I would go for the x2 he but if you have an amp and only want either of the 2 the he 4xx is the go to. I find it personally lacking around the midbass
I’m mainly talking about compared to a wide variety of headphones combined, they have a somewhat recessed midrange. As you point out they are fairly recessed sounding to the senn, but are still recessed sounding compared to other headphones
I cannot get the X2 in my country and I heard there are issues with quality control over the sound, like drivers having mismatched sound and such
But then with the x2 you loose detail and control, and the bass overwhelms a fair bit imo. Not my favorite choice lol
A good pair of X2HR measures like this:
The biggest issue of these is the 5k peak and the 1.6k peak the bass is good until like 50-60hz but then it rolls off
Anways I can’t get them in my country and I wouldnt even if I could
The 4xx just seems better in every way
Oh and here’s the 4xx vs the 650
The 4xx is much better imo in detail, soundstage, layering, fr, and separation. The x2 might have a bit more organic timbre though but even then it’s not that great
So do you own the 4xx? and if so can you measure the headband extension? that’d really helpful I don’t wanna buy them just to realise that they dont fit me and have to send them back
I have tried a bunch of 4xx, but don’t currently have one on hand, although there are a decent amount of people on here that do have one. If your curious what I have you can check my profile
@RiceGuru you have one right
Damn you have a lot of headphones!
I currently own: Apple EarPods (lol), Panasonic HJE125 (lol), HyperX Cloud’s, Superlux HD 681’s
Yeah I’ve been in this too long lol, don’t let the addiction get this bad
But I don’t use the earpods since they sound shrill and have no subbass, and the HyperX Clouds since they have developed driver rattle and dont fit me that well I have to really try to make them fit me and they barely fit.
So what I use rn is the Superlux HD681
