What do you enjoy about the superlux, and what would you want to change?

Oh boy lemme post a graph first:

So I enjoy the bass extension even if it doesnt go down to the 20hz flat its still really good for an open back especially for how damn cheap they are.

The mids are recessed a bit in the 500hz-2k region which honestly I dont like
.
The 5k peak can be too much on some music but despite the 10k peak being huge I honestly dont mind it that region between 7k-10k i dont mind being boosted what I mind is above that the 10k-15k is the region that really hurts my ears if its boosted.

The soundstage is not bad, and the comfort is not that good while wearing my glasses they can be umcofortable if I dont position them just right

So what I want is no pain in the 10k-15k region no sharpness piercing pain and no mid recession, no 5k peak would also be really nice

Hmmm, it seems like the 58x might align with your preferences more fr wise imo

Ye idk if the recessed mids of the 4xx will be the same since they are around 2k not 500hz-1.5k like the Superlux

2k is usually the region which gives vocals projection and that shrillness if they are boosted too much.
But yes I think i’d really enjoy the sennheiser midrange i really do enjoy vocals quite alot

Typically shrillness/fatigue comes from around 2.5k-5k if overdone. Grittiness comes from the 1-2.5k range from my experience

Actually yes! u said that perfectly ye ur right. Sometimes I don’t use the best words when describing stuff xD

So basically it all boils down to if I wanna sacrifice midrange for soundstage or the opposite

Aka 58x or 4xx

Yeah, that’s fairly accurate. The 58x has a warmer sound that also has better timbre that the 4xx sometimes lacks. So you are pretty much going to have more of a dynamic bass hump and a more flat bass response on the 4xx, where the 4xx has better layering and detail in the bass, but the 58x sounds more natural. The 4xx also has better extension too

Midrange wise, the mids are more distant and less pronounced on the 4xx, where they are in full effect on the 58x. The 58x is also smoother sounding compared to the 4xx. The treble is where the 4xx pulls ahead imo with better extension and better detail and air, but the 58x has a pleasing slight roll off.

Basically the 4xx would be for fun and excitement, and the 58x is more relax and chill but still fun

Ok thats a hard choice, man that’s hard!!

But I think first I have to find if the 4xx would even fit me, I know the 58x would fit me since they extend alot in the headband.

But regarding sound I can’t choose right now tbh, I am gonna think about it!

Yeah but have both the 58x and 4xx. I will say I prefer the 4xx sound.

Could you perhaps measure the headband on the 4xx?

I have a big head 4xx fits me fine

Sorry I will when I get home I’m out of town right now

Hmm, ye but big in what sense is it wide or tall and THANK YOU !!!

Also the 4xx works better with glasses imo (pad wise)

I have a big wide head

The pad is stupid plush

Ye my head is not wide, it’s tall. Good to know that they work well with glasses!

I kinda wish they still came with the regular focuspad instead of the focuspad a tho

Is the normal focuspad better?

It changes the sound a bit. The focuspad enhances the bass a bit imo, and overall I end up preferring that one because I also think it improves soundstage, where the focuspad a is a more linear sound. Also like the thickness of the focuspad compared to the focuspad a too, and the focuspad gets less hot than the focuspad
