If this is a neutral headphone, how does it compare to the Auteurs?
wait, did you say their W shaped? how do they compare to the elex then?

The bass is present and extends low, the mid-range is not sucked out like a V shape (hence my impression of flatness) and the highs are assertive, forward but not shrill.
That’s how I’d describe the Elex also. But it certianly is a different sounding headphone so the comparison is harder to make.
Have you received your ZMF Auteur yet?
Yeah i got them, they seem to have a neutral sound and detailed. they sound really good and im pleased with them.
But i still want the Arya’s dammit lol
So you would say the Auteur is better than the Aeolus or just that you didnt like the sound sig of the Aeolus? How does the elex compare to the Auteur and Aeolus?
Its more detailed. Which was one of my problems with the Aeolus. It seemed to lack detail. I equated detail with value back then. So i wrote Zack asking him to accept the Aeolus back cause i didnt feel it was worth its price lol. Zack very kindly offered me the Auteur for a replacement.
But they are different Sound signatures. Ive learned that the Auteur are neutral, the bass, midrange and treble are more equal. The Auteur does have a little more bass though for neutral. but neutral headphones can be boring. so i think the extra detail is added to liven it up. but the Aeolus is W shaped. so the Bass midrange and treble are turned up. its more lively and exciting. but its a less detailed headphone.
So now im trying to decide which i like best. Neutral and detailed? or W shaped and exciting? since i loved the Elex so much, i’m thinking W. But the Auteur sounds very nice. really good. and it fits my obsession with art and artists. Neutral would present the music more as the artist intended i would think. and detail would be welcome there.
But since i also like W shaped the Arya would be nice to own since its also W shaped. probably a upgrade to the Elex. but owning 2 1300$ headphones might be too much lol
The Elex is a lesser headphone than the Aeolus and Auteur. so i would like to get a Arya since their both W shaped. cause ive been looking for a upgrade to the Elex. the Auteur is a different sound signature, different type of headphone
Thanx for the info. Appreciate it
I heard theres a revision for this headphone. from a review on headphones.com:
“In the latest revision in the Arya I picked up, Hifiman also added reinforcing steel to their sometimes-weak plastic yokes on the headband, amongst a few other small changes to the Arya to improve durability such as carbon fiber internal baffles and moving the pad liners to the cup itself.”
sounds like its just structural changes. anyone knows it there was any change to the sound?
Apparently it’s a pretty small change, I compared my arya to a friends newer one at his house before I sold mine and it didn’t sound that different.
Just got my Arya today. Sounds great but its a little bright. Will the RNHP amp bring the treble down? or maybe a liquid spark?
A liquid spark would bring the treble down. The rnhp would remove the harshness from the treble and drop it a tad, but not roll it off as much as the liquid spark
Should just get an rnhp and stop worrying about it
All the cool kids are doing it
Guilty!
Thanks. Looking to get a xlr cable for it this is on Amazon for 50$ Since it works for the HE1000 i assume it will be fine for the Arya:
Also looking at Hart cables but i dont like the way they have the headphone cable connecting to a interconnect. Why cant it just be one cable?
Looking a Periapt cables too. This seems to be the best but its kinda expensive. Maybe i should just go for the Amazon Sukira cable?
Any other options?
That cable you linked will not work, the arya uses 3.5mm connectors on the cups if I’m not mistaken, the cable you linked uses 2.5mm connectors
Would you agree so far with Joshua Valour’s video or is it too early to tell? Curious to hear your thoughts on the Arya compared to your other headphones.
That way you don’t have to keep swapping the plugs in your amp, you can just buy the headphone cable (making them cheaper too) and swap in the one you want to use. The 4’ interconnect in particular is useful if you have your amps out of reach.
But doesnt it contribute to noise on the line to have too many interconnects?
They sound pretty amazing. But theres a lot of treble here. and i’ve been listening to the ZMF Auteur. Which has good treble but doesnt have a treble issue like the Arya. Its not as bad as the Ananda. But its still too much for me. Dont know what im gonna do. But damn they sound good. More resolving than the Auteur. Maybe i should try a filter?
I’d keep listening to it and see if the sound signature starts to acclimate to your ears. I’d also let it keep playing and look up to see if anyone mentions burn in. I’ve had a lot of gear change from the initial impression
