My tube amp is not transformerless, so it feeds plenty of current. I found speaker tube amps to sound beautifull with planar headphones
Hi I want to ask you between gl2000 moded and edition xs what is better for imaging and soundstage for single player and competitive gaming and movies
I need big wide soundstage and accurate pinpoint positions
A modded GL2000 is very good, but it has some pretty spicy treble. Edition XS is really really good in stock form, but definitely better with non-angled pads like the ones that @NtraXMod makes (leather outside, suede contact patch, perforated suede inner, non angled, memory foam is the best ones IMO). Iād take the Edition XS with the pads over the GL2k, but the GL2k is really stupid comfyā¦I wish everyone could figure out that level of comfortā¦
Iām super happy with my XS, and its made me want to try some of Hifimanās higher offerings. What would be a good upgrade over the XS?
Iām thinking about the Arya Stealth or possibly saving for HeK v2 or SE. I originally wanted the He6se V2 but since an expensive amp upgrade is required Iām staying away from that for now.
Personally I think you are better off with a sidegrade - from the limited listening ive had and from what most reviews mention is that the edition Xs is 85%-90% of the Arya, so basiclly you are paying triple for a fairly small improvement.
Iād take that sort of budget and go for the more boutique headphone like ZMF or that sort of thing
Hello everyone, has anyone tried these headphones with a source such as mojo 2? If there is such an experience, share your impression. Is there enough power for them? Currently i use powerdac v2.1 and power is just enough, but interested in quality improvement. Desktop options is not for me now, because of war in our counrty, i need something that will be not big, i have suggestion of nice price for mojo 2(400$ for new), maybe it is worth a try?
The Mojo might have enough power but i dont think it will do it well, i would suggest maybe going for a portable unit something like a Topping NX7 or FIIO BTR 5/7.
Ivāe tried them with my BTR 5 and it does work pretty well (not 100% of what the headphone can do but its sounds pretty damn good ) just make sure you run them balanced to get as much power as you can
Yes just as Naturally said.
$400 looks decent for a Mojo - but these Mojos have aged now. Try to look around for some more powerful, newer, technically better options. Also, as he suggested - balanced. That would be the way to go.
Donāt want you to be curious afterwards and then again look for a balanced dac/amp later.
What other options do you have? I know the Mojo can sound like a good deal, but thatās only because their products are overpriced to begin with. An iFi device can be cheaper, and still better in performance. Like for example, I have the old iFi micro iDSD, and for the life of me, I cannot run it on max gain (where it runs in Class A mode) - because that amp is just too powerful. Itās too powerful for all the headphones I have. And even that can be had for the price of a mojo or less, and still better. So inquire about more options if available first before going with a Chord product.
Are you sure that btr5 power will be enough? Im using currently powerdac v2.1 an from power point of view, they are just ok, i wanted more juiceā¦
I see ifi black label for 300$ on local market with good condition, one man told me that black label sounds the same as xduoo xd-05 with muses op amps, but if black label is really good,i will get it
Iād personally say theyāre non portable, Asgard 3 or SMSL SH-9 kinda seems to be the cheapest to drive them with enough control to do them some good justice.
Ya the BTR 5 has plenty of juice, at high gain on 35 (out of 50) they are is just fine, but you have to run it balanced (2.5mm).
Or you can go for the BTR 7 or NX7, they have plenty of power, but i personally like the smaller form factor and clip of the BTR5 over most other things
Planar, need is current⦠portable wonāt do much, wattage is only for your volume which most will give you, however bass slam control and separation will be easily distinguish between portable and desktop with the same wattage. For dynamic driver is different, most 1 watt above will drive them plenty.
Mate there is a good enough reason for him to go portable for now rather than desktopā¦
Will he get the most out of them? No,
But it will drive them and give him enough volume? Yes
Hey, Mojo 2 is a great product and will drive Edition XS pretty well. You should be aware of something, Iāve seen some users at Head-Fi complain about a random loud white noise which is caused due to a USB Synchronization bug or something. Optical works without issue.
I have owned BTR5, Gryphon, XD-05 OG/BAL, iDSD Sig, Mojo among other portable DACs and auditioned the Mojo 2 so Iām familiar with the products you mentioned.
I would skip the NX7 and wait for the Topping G5 instead, youāll get extra features and functionality.
Definitely skip BTR5, getting enough volume on a Headphone and driving it well are two different things and BTR5 will not do the later option with Edition XS. Have not tried the BTR7 but Iād be very surprised if it drives a planar to full potential.
For something like Edition XS, Iād either pick Mojo 2 or micro iDSD Signature/Black Label.
Gryphon would also drive it well but only if you use Balanced Out. At that price, unless you really want a smaller portable product, Iād skip it and look at micro iDSD Series instead. You should be able to find a used Black Label.
Thank you, this is great answer, i will try to talk with seller of black label on local market, black label used in good condition 300$, chord mojo 2 new 440$, mojo first version used for 300$ too. For me currently, while Russian bombs and rockets explode not far for me: the best solution will be black label, mojo, etc.
To other guys: thank you for your advices, but there is no possibility to get Asgard to the refugee bag, im already fled from my city for two months because of street fights and rockets. Now Iām back, but i donāt know what will be here tomorrow, and the only things which i can take with me is devices like: mojo, black label, etc⦠Im from Kyivā¦
Btr5 in terms of power, looks similar to my current powerdac v2.1, so i think i need something more powerful.
Topping nx7 donāt have a dac as far as i knowā¦
My desktop setup was smsl d1se + topping a30 pro, before war, but had to sell it, because of war:(
Oh, wanted to add, i found one more option with size factor for me topping dx3 pro plus, for 170$ like new condition. It is the cheapest solution, is it worth to look that way? Or it will be āwithout soulā?
Best wishs man, its shitty situation hopes the music helps
Ya i get it man - like i said its not nearly enough current to really give it all it needs to really make it shine, but it get loud enough and its a solid portable that you can use down the line.
Between Mojo, Mojo 2 & Black Label. My personal choice would be the BL, it has a laid back warm sound that pairs well with the brighter signature of Edition XS without sacrificing details, the xBass option does wonders on HiFiMan Headphones.
I would not recommend Mojo, it has good Imaging and does that 3D effect on soundstage but everything is so close together and it has so much detail that personally, I find it fatiguing. Mojo 2 on the other hand has similar sound characteristic but because of itās EQ you can tune it to sound more relaxing.
The above is for my personal tastes so YMMV. Either way the above 3 are solid devices.
Yeah get the BL I think then. For POWER - I donāt think you will have any complaints, like no contest that one. And is like a desktop AND portable, both, solution (albeit a bit bulky for portable, but still, if not too bothersome. No less portable than a mojo). And def very pleasant sounding - laidback and warm like John says.
And stay safe out there. Hoping this issue would soon end so you guys can all relax and get back to it.
But i have to say, after investigation of btr7 im interested a lot of device itself and it use cases, much more interesting than black label! But the question: will be the balanced power of btr7 enough for edition xs, to provide juicy sound. Second point that btr7 is not available yet on our local market, i will try to ask when it will be available at local shops. International shipping - i worried about it, because no planes fly thru my country, as i can see from linsoul, hifigo or AliExpress - dhl or fedex are currently not available at all, so maybe it isnot good idea to order from another country now⦠Well i need to gather more info and think, because device itself btr7 looks very interesting.
I talked with black label seller, and found that there is some issues with that device, so i a little bit disappointed
