đŸ”¶ Hifiman Edition XS

This is pure scam.

So sorry, but this statement not applicable anymore.

I order a lot from aliexpress, my customer profile there is top level(Diamond Member) it means i order from there a lot, and in 99% case everything is just fine: order ships in 72 hours after the payment, deliver in normal up to 30 days in case of standart shipping, i ordered DHL(up to 7 days delivery), Fedex, so many options and in 99% everything is ok. But as usual there some scammers which behave like this two(or more from one person) shops. I recieved just a little bit more than 100 orders from Aliexpress for last five years and only 3 of them was problematic, this Hifimans is 3rd. I order from Ali because this platform is widely available for shopping and free of charge delivery to my country. Amazon services not available, ebay works with limited functionality and etc.
So the platform itself is ok from my point of view, but there is unfair people, people which scam us. I am totally not torable to such behavior so i will open the dispute and get my money back, as soon as possible.

My order still have no updates from the date of purchase, i don’t even want this headphones anymore, for me owning begins with the wish, then making decision, purchasing experience, anticipation of the parcel, unboxing, evaluation, and just listening. Now this pleasent flow is broken, with current state of things i just don’t want them

Anyone tried the XS with tubes?

I think only hybrid need apply. Should harmonize extremely well, as much of the affordable HFM planar range does.

Well that does suck. No excuse. Not for a ~$500 order. Def not.

First off though, I think the sellers may be going greedy - I believe the XS may be out of stock in China too at the moment, AE sellers can prob can get away with a ‘hidden’, ‘undisclosed’ pre-order sale rather than a confirmed sale - I believe if it’s multiple sellers delaying shipments, this is probably what’s going on.

I too am an avid AliExpresser, cuz of almost the same reasons, I have 300+ orders form them, keep bouncing between diamond and platinum, so I figure sellers should respect that at least.

I guess sometimes you can expect anything, even from known sellers. This one deal I had from Shenzhen Audio just for an example, 16th March - see how I had to wait for almost a month (well I should highlight I was ok with late shipping I mean I was patience and gave them all the time they needed). I don’t know what went wrong with it, but then I said I would just cancel now on coming Monday if they didn’t send it. I guess they took it seriously and did the right thing. I still respected their ‘general reputation’ you see, I told them categorically that I choose to trust them. I mean - it’s Shenzhen Audio. Finally got it 28th April.

So it is probably expected?

Anyhow, nothing really went wrong for me in all those orders - some petty $5 or less two orders didn’t show up but I don’t bother then, could be issue with my local country post office too, they’re not really the most efficient or honest folks so.

Keep in mind one thing always - besides the more expensive shipping (FedEx, DHL etc), I always try to go for Singapore or HK Post if possible, then maybe China Post. 4PX works sometimes, sometimes not. Any other smaller posts are just too, too late, and chances of failure too.

You could cancel - or just give them a final deadline. If the seller is playing around, then I guess yeah for a refund. Otherwise, I wonder if there’s no real ill-will and they’re just trying to grab enough units to satisfy placed orders. Either way, this funny stuff is to be expected from AE.

The final decision is of course up to you. I do at least trust in AE enough that I know if I will go for a refund, if it is my last resort, it will come through.

I wonder if you’d be able to place a replacement order to this one - I mean chances are it may also be delayed - maybe ur funds are going to be tied here either way. Give them a final warning though - make them understand it’s serious business now, or you go dispute - maybe it will shake em to do what they’re supposed to.

I hope you get your pair soon, one way or the other. Guess the universe is just asking for a bit more patience from you in this particular instance.

XS on xDuoo mt-602 with Sylvania JHS 6AK5 tubes is sublime!

Please more sound details, can you compares with some other headphone also.
Thanks!

Speaking specifically running the XS off the MT-602. My impressions of the XS on my digital setup with Asgard3 are posted above.

This is my turntable setup
U-turn->Grado black with 8mz->Schiit Mani->MT-602 with the vintage Sylvania tubes
I normally use my AeonRT closed in this setup to block ambient sound.
The XS sounds bigger with a larger soundstage. Theres more airyness and highend extention, but without being fatiguing. Keep in mind the Aeon has great soundstage especially for a closed back. The XS might be considered a little bass light, but what it has is quality.

The build, fit and comfort of the Aeon is light years ahead of the XS, or most headphones for that matter. And there is something to the sound of the Aeon that keeps brining me back to it. The XS is a fantastic addition to my collection, but if I had to pick one to use for an extended period of time its still my Aeon RTC.

I just ordered directly from Hifiman via their taobao platform, my order was sent out within 2 days and has just reached my freight forwarder’s warehouse. So I don’t think they’re low on stock.

Well I’m being philosophical about my experience. I’ve been pretty lucky with my online ordering over the years without any real issues and that includes a couple of previous orders through Aliexpress.

What I object to with Electricxiaomi Store is the fact that despite paying an additional AUD 79.32 for DHL, they were going to just send via normal post and it only came to light when I questioned it. I understand that freight rates might have risen after placing the order but they didn’t tell me or try to work something out. When the issue was finally broached and they asked me for ANOTHER $80.00 to send via DHL, I refused and told them to either:

  1. Send via normal post and refund my original $79.32
  2. Cancel the order

They chose to cancel the order?

Interestingly, on their site they have now increased their DHL rate by AUD 48.00 which is still $32 less than the extra $80 they tried to scam out of me.

All good - I will get my money back eventually and I have raised a dispute with PayPal. I will wait for HiFiGo to get stock before trying again. :slightly_smiling_face:

that’s so scummy of them. it really sucks to hear how hard it is for people to get these and i hate that it’s putting a bad first impression of them out there just solely due to the fact that getting them is a nightmare and the price keeps going up

I think the correct seller behaviour in this situation, will be: to told the truth as soon as possible to the customers and cancel the orders, return money and explain the situation. In my scenario, my seller just answer me - ok and no any other words. My shipping is still “pending by the seller”

You are lucky, that your order is cancelled, they don’t want to cancel my, here is AliExpress support response:

So no cancel option for me is unavailable currently as far as i understand;))) I will wait to 16th(Because seller created track on 6th, but i purchased days earlier) of December, and if track will be still pending - i will start the support war(through the dispute) to turn my money back, lol:)

I had similar issues with another store on ali, but they messaged me right away and suggested to close my order based on “other reasons” or pay additional shipping fees, because shipping suddenly became more expensive for them. What I found curious is that they had lower shipment fees on that listing than their competitors. I guess some ali shops just can’t update shipment costs fast enough. No excuse for that electricxiaomi store’s behavior obviously

Well it’s not cancelled yet - status is shown as “frozen” but still showing a tracking number. They say it is with some local carrier and they are waiting for it to be returned. Aliexpress gave me the same crap as it shows a tracking number. I’ll give it a few more days before taking up with Aliexpress again.

I don’t expect this to be sorted out in a hurry

For anyone who ordered via electricxiaomi or GZZB on AliExpress and have a cancelled tracking number it’s most probably being transfered to another carrier as mine did.

Ask the store for the updated tracking number, mine got transferred to 4PX.
The seller said there was an issue with the magnetic scanning so it was transfered to “special goods line”, hopefully this arrives a little faster than the original shipping method.
Getting plenty of updates with the new tracking method.
The original tracking numbers cancellation time/date and new tracking creation time/date is the same so the tracking looks legit.

I managed to get mine for USD$376 but had to pay 10% import tax, Australia >=(
Total was USD$419 delivered.

Massive thank you to the original reviewers Pokrog, FullBright1, ATK (sorry if I missed anyone, you too) & all new reviews coming through, I was just about to pull the trigger on a pair of Sundara’s after waiting months for Black Friday to drop.

BTW, can any of you guys tell me if this cable can be modded to balanced (3.5mm input to 4-pin XLR)?

I believe this is the same cable that comes with the He-4XX. I’m fine with it and I don’t particularly hate it.
Anyone try and see if it has 3 conductors down the Y-split or 4?
I know if it’s 3 then it’s pointless.
But I don’t want to ruin it to check out, so if anyone knows anything or has a different hunch, would help.

HIFIMAN

So that you’d hack off the single 3.5mm end off and solder on a 4-pin XLR termination? I’d just so sooner buy this and maintain this cable intact for non-balanced applications.
