What DAC are you running, if any, out of curiosity?

I recommended Xduoo XD05 basic for the he400se, you could change OP amp to your liking

i would recommend A LOT more power for the he400se. they come alive with a lot more power and the bass get super punchy. something like 2w @50ohm at least.

Yeah absolutely. In fact I’ve ordered one myaelf

All those $100 ish amps sound and measure about the same, they’re all good enough too (heresy, atom, liquid spark, l30) don’t stress to much about it imo

I just bought sundara palipads (newest sundara revision pads) and replace the he400se velour pads, wow the dip on the upper mid is kinda filled and makes vocal more body and less thin

What is next step up from these?

Hifiman Sundara

I mean, you could get a Sundara, but it kinda depends? What do you like about what you have now? What don’t you like? Are you using an amp and/or dac, and if so, what are they? What kind of budget do you have?

Personally dont like the design. Bass lacks slam and speed for me. Want planar with a little bit more details. Everything fine. Budget is around 600ish.

Monolith M1570

I have done the grill mod, OMG the sound soo much better, bigger soundstage, better imaging, no treble peak thus no more metalic sound, generally sound more natural, love it!

1 issue tho, how is the dust? will it affect the longevity of the driver?

He400se with sundara pads and grill mod is better than sundara, quite surprising actually

The material on the factory grills can be pulled off and glued to the honeycomb grills with some spray glue.

But does it contradict the usage of grill mod? I thought that the sound is soo much better because there is no filter at all that blocks the sound and airflow

It’s slightly noticeable but still an improvement vs stock. I’ve had no protection on my he6 for years now and they’ve been fine. A lot of the sound benefit comes from having less grill material in the way so you’re still most of the way there.

I just want to make sure that my he400se is fine without the dust filter for many years, because i love the sound soo much haha

did your he6 use dust filter on the honeycomb grill or not?
