🔶 Hifiman HE400se

Yeah, it’s gold in color.

Talking about this mod… A good review! :headphones::point_down:t2:

Hi everyone. I bought a sennheiser hd560s. Anyone owns both the He400se and the HD560S and can compare them both? Over at SBAF people are saying the He400se destroys the HD560S, but some other people say they are similar

He400se is warmer and easily twice the detail. Massively larger soundstage and soundstage height. Better imaging. Mids are maybe a little more intimate on the 560s but it’s not like they’re not there on the 400se. 560s is kinda dull imo. Pad swap and honeycomb grills on the 400se make it go from damn good to amazing. They do take some decent power to shine and they sound really good on class a and speaker amps just like their big brother the he6 and their bass can be absolutely thunderous and super immersive but only when called for and doesn’t get in the way when you don’t want it to. I can’t stress power enough and I’ve measured mine at 56 ohm so they’re a lot more power hungry than their advertised 25 ohm (which is the Chinese non stealth driver measurements) impedance, so take that into consideration.

Oh man I feel like the HD560S is kind of a bad purchase. Luckily I’ve ordered a pair of Ananda

Is this with the 400SE on stock?

How big are the cups on the 400SE compared to the 560S? It looks like it is wider but less tall (and more round).

Stock pads on the he400se are the same as most hifiman circle cans and I think they’re a little small personally

I got small ears, so I definitely need to know if its a lot wider than the 560S. Because the 560S is already pretty big for me.

Stock pads are probably a little wider but not taller. The stock pad height seems too small for me and I don’t think my ears are all that big. The brainwavz xl pads are kinda massive inside but the effect it gives is totally worth it imo.

This. after the grill mods and sundara pads mod , it became better than the sundara with noticeable wider soundstage and more precise imaging

Does anyone in the UK/EU region know whether purchasing on Hifiman’s site is the best deal for these? Or are there better bargains out there?

I think finding a “local” store is preferable for this kind of thing: you’ll probably have better shipment price, easier return policy, etc

I just learned about the grill mod and pads today. I was wandering what pads everybody uses? The 50$ hifiman palipads for the he 400 series? And is there a tutorial somewhere to do the grill mod? Thanks!

My personal favorite pads I’ve used is the brainwavz XL micro suede gaming pads with the cooling gel. There’s something about the ones with gel in them that just works.

That seems like a better deal since they’re like half the price. I’ll definitely give those a try. I’ll search up a video of taking the grilles out. What do you normally replace them with though and how do you do that part?

most people use these and if you want some extra protection you can use the mesh that comes on the stock grills and glue it to the inside of the honeycomb grills with some craft glue

Sweet thank you very much! Looking forward to hearing them after the mods

I actually forgot to ask one more thing about the ear pads. Are the brainwavz ones actually better than the hifiman palipads in sound too? Or do they both sound good and they’re more reasonable and comfortable?

I don’t like the pali pads personally. they’re not deep enough for me. And I’m not 100% sure but I think the 400se comes with pali pads stock but it may just be a different kind. The XL (specifically the XL) brainwavz suede pads drastically stretch out the soundstage and make the bass feel a little more authoritative and they’re way way more comfortable that the pali pads or stock hifiman pads.
