Hifiman HE6SE For $700

Seriously bro, adopt me, I cook too :muscle:

IDK man, it would have to be some pretty killer dishes

I have been listening to the HE6 constantly since I got them running properly, and as you can see from my comments above, I really like them. But I just switched back to my Empyreans for the first time in the past two weeks, and I hate to admit it, but I still prefer them. Saying I hate to admit it isn’t true, but I feel like I’ve been contributing to a terrible upgrade-required hype train without meaning to.

If you don’t have a proper amp (which I still may not to get the best out of the HE6 with my Marantz 2325), it may be a better route to spend the extra cash up front on a 38ohm planar flagship like the Empyreans, or something along the same lines. The $700 price tag is the killer enticement, but definitely not indicative of the true cost of the HE6.

I agree with this for sure. It really just might make more sense to go with a higher end headphone that really doesn’t require all of this work to get to sound good. I think I have better headphones for sure, but the he6 is a very enjoyable piece that I can use with my existing equipment. But it’s really hard to recommend

I do R&D recipes for corporate hotels, and that looks good as hell

BUT, this has also been a valuable learning lesson for some of us! I now know proof positive that really nice stuff absolutely costs a fuck ton of money and really can’t be had for $100

I mean I would say it depends on your frame of reference and what you are talking about. I mean I think the atom is really good for 100 bucks, but you most likely would be considering higher with $500+ headphones. It just depends

Yeah. That’s kind of the guilt I’m feeling right now. At $800 with the headphone speaker amp adapters and the proper speaker amps these are a great deal. But if you are using desktop THX headphone variant amps, the Aryas and others will likely be cheaper for you in the long run. These are more of a “Oh you already have a badass speaker amp? Let me show you something…”

Or something if you really want to dive in for the challenge of finding the perfect amp, but that’s not what most people are in it for lol. I think it’s a valuable piece in any high end collection if you already have a nice speaker amp, but for 1k there are just alot more options that will outperform these if you don’t have a good amp already

Also eyeing another parasound as I type this…

Man I’ve always wanted to go monoblock but I really don’t need it lol

I already have to get better electrical for the studio because of those other speakers lol

Edit: oooshittttt I didn’t even think of hooking the 6se up to those amps

When i started this adventure I didn’t even much like headphones, but I wanted to learn. As i look at my desk I absolutely adore each and every piece on it. I am doing allot with budget priced items mixed in with what the audiophile community calls mid-tier also. I can be happy with my $100 headphones, dacs, and amps. Yep absolutely. They sound really good. That little extra 20% tho sure as shit costs allot more than 20% increase in $$$… IMHO, just saying…

Yes, this exactly. There is no shortcut to making these headphones sound as good as they potentially can (Sorry @antpage2 !), but that doesn’t mean you are missing out by not having them. These are an entirely niche purchase and you can arguably easily get similar results off of an existing setup you already have at a much lower entry price and cost/wiring commitment

Now I really want to take out those amps for my studio speakers and build a breakout box. The he6 will ascend to a higher level with almost 6000wpc; I will be able to hear everything and than nothing after it explodes

That’s the spirit! Take pictures tho, i wanna see what they look like if they smoke and melt.

I am not going to risk it lol. I would be more worried about killing the amps. Also have no idea how I would wire it either

Ha! I’m getting real good at figuring out how to wire stuff up, i’m sure we could come up with a plan…hehehe

Seriously tho, what should be my next headphones? I want to push them with my Sugden so they should be a bit harder to drive and higher Ohm value. Also i wnt something with nice WOOD dammit. I want precious trees on my earpads.

Come on, all of you speak up. Black Friday sales abound. Someone find me something good for like 40% off regular price or cheaper.

kennerton thror? Really liking mine so far. Well not really hard to drive tbh
