šŸ”¶ Hifiman HE6SE

I just got the female xlr piece and had it made short so you can plug your regular xlr headphone cable into it. i think mine was an overall length of 18 inches.

Hey there, if you do decide to go for them, I’d like to help you save money.

Recently purchased one from Adorama at$649.00 (brand new, not open box) and used it for a review and packed em back up. If I can help you save some bucks on a brand new item, why not!

Well, these are growing on me. Even on the G111, I’m starting to understand the appeal. The have such a rich timbre to them. They may just be a bit forceful for me. I’ve got a Singxer coming from a member, I’ll be interested to see what that pairing is like.

curious what you mean by forceful? impactful bass?

They really do have a lot of slam and dynamics. I would call them intense like my Elex’s. Everything seems bigger, brighter, louder. It is funny that I am comparing these to the Monoprice M1570’s as they are complete opposites.
I can definitely see the appeal in these and they are another reason that I love mid-fi.

The music of course also plays a big part. Just on one page of a playlist:

  1. Florence and the Machine - High as Hope. Soft voice and everything is super clear and super low key.

  2. Shinedown - ATTENTION ATTENTION. Everything is turned up to 11 and sounds great, except there is fair bit of distortion. Just the Shinedown sound on most of this album.

  3. Dave Matthews Band - Come Tomorrow. The voice and all the instruments are crystal clear. Bassy when called upon and the mids are near perfect.

These are an awesome deal at $599.00. I think these may join my holy trinity (Grado GH2’s, Elex’s and Cascades).

The M1570’s seem SO weak in comparison, but that’s not fair as they are two very different kinds of sound.

Impactful bass is part of it, but everything is very lively, and is intense. I did feel the same way about the Elex, but the timber on the HE6SE is fuller and more natural. It is very different from the HE560, which is thinner and not as in your face.

Yep, pretty awesome on the SIngxer. Definitely like it better than the G111 or Jot 2. Compared to the G111 the Singxer is wider and more resolving and has more impactful bass. BF2->Singxer->HE6SE is very transparent, super clean, very natural… a lot of buzz words there, but damn–the equipment just disappears and you’re just in the music. Phenomenal.

Here is a little teaser before I review the he6se v2, hopefully get that up soon :stuck_out_tongue:

The day I see one of those on the used market for $400 I’m buying one. Until then, i don’t need it on the go enough to justify $750. They are a fantastic piece of source gear though. Best I’ve ever heard the he6 sound with a portable by far (with xbass and 3d on).

yeah I am going to canjam this weekend and it basically the perfect portable source gear to bring around and play headphones off of

Im super jelly. I would love to be able to get to canjam with literally a portable idsd signature and a douk u2 pro connected to my phone and an he6se v2 permanently attached to my noggin…I have shorts big enough to handle it. Im ready. Lol

I have just finished 12 consecutive days with these headphones on the iFi Pro iCAN.

Today was mostly all jazz. Miles Davis’s new album, BAD BAD NOT GOOD’s second album and Go go Penguins album from 2012. Then I finished with some random rock. These are awesome headphones! However, if your music is noisey, it won’t be nearly as pleasant. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

These are a nice addition to almost any collection. Certainly in the mid-fi world.

Hahahaha :rofl::sweat_smile: good one

i figured out the reason they’re special. it’s absolute presence. it’s an absolute presence that just cannot be ignored. i got sucked into this weird michael jackson, wham!, kenny loggins, george michael, a-ha playlist today and it was just epic in size. the more fun and punchy the song the better with all these songs and the stage size was just flawless with all of them. never really thought the he6se v2 has big stage but it’s sounding appropriately sized for this playlist basically without fault. it never exaggerates, it just puts it out there as what it is.

Phil Collins stereotypical ā€œin the air tonightā€ (i know it’s meme status) is holy shit good with my current setup and I haven’t listened to this song in a long time on any of my serious gear and it’s hilarious.

What DAC do you use?

So I’m currently only using a gustard x16 but i’m using a douk u2 pro through i2s and the difference between how the gustard performs through usb and the i2s from the douk is absolutely massive. The clarity and detail improvement is massive. I wouldn’t recommend the x16 if you don’t get at least that douk reclocker to use it. Without it, the x16 was run of the mill with the rest of the crowd but had a nice timbre to it that I liked but after the i2s connection it pretty much satisfies all of my detail requirements on top of it all. Until I decide to upgrade to a high end DAC I’m happy with it. I really think people could be mind blown by the reclock either over i2s or coax of the u2 pro. It’s not subtle if you have resolving enough headphones with enough power to do them justice.
