I think I want to try a different integrated

It’s good but I don’t think it’s warm tbh, it’s more just neutral

Maybe neutral would sound warm compared to the yamaha?

(Turns down treble tone control and thinks maybe I should keep this and buy harbeths later in life)

@donjklassen go to Schiit Audio I think there is ‘new’ amp for under 1000$ ( and tube amps just for turntables if i am not mistaken)mine is the Ragnarok 2 but just the amp you can get it with phono input for more money

I’ve never owned a schiit product… are they generally warm and forgiving?

get a tube preamp to add warmth

https://www.schiit.com/products/freya-1

under 1k and awesome tube preamp

There are also a crap ton of chifi preamps for 50$ or less that work great. just are not balanced and usually only have 1 in/out.

Huh… not a bad idea… I do a vacant shelf

So at that point, why not get an OTL tube amp now?

This was what I originally thought as well

Damnit @M0N I’m sorry lol being too stubborn at that point I suppose… humblest of apologies

Yeah I’m relatively new and appreciate the patience here lol the mp-402 looks pretty intimidating tbh and wouldn’t go into the space I have

I understand. I saw that you were worried about ventilation and maintenance, but after owning OTL vs. hybrid vs. SS, you don’t need much ventilation or maintenance at all. You just can’t jam it into a corner or towards the back of a shelf/cabinet.
Also, with the experience of all three, full tubes will give you that warmth that you are seeking for. Again, see if you can stop by a shop just to get an idea of SS vs. hybrid vs OTL – that will give you the best idea and experience. To hear it for yourself. Nothing can replace that.

Crap lol i skimmed it i missed you suggesting it haha! What @M0N originally said

@donjklassen I personally have found all their products I have owned to be that( and their tube products may be more so)-- Modi Magni FULLA Gungnir (sigma delta) and now Ragnarok 2 and Yggdrasil GS-- there is a ‘schiitload’ of reviews and opinions out there and go to their website and read about them-- a great place is on head-fi.org where there is a whole thread on jason stoddard’s book about the company he founded with mike moffat entitled “Schiit Happened… story of world’s most improbable startup”
hope this helps

It’s just not an option here unfortunately but perhaps in my future travels… what are your thoughts on a preamp being a good middle ground?

Personally I think that is true with their higher products (totl for them), but their older budget products had some issues with tuning and technicalities

I wouldn’t even call it a middle ground. I think it would take advantage of the best of both worlds as long as your preamp can warm up the sound enough to your liking. Meanwhile, you can still take advantage of the power of your already nice amp.

My 2c, just reinforcing what others have said.

My stereo is all valve, a valve pre-amp, feeding into 2 valve mono blocks.
I can understand the reticence in not wanting to deal with valves in power amplifiers, if I were still “investing” in my stereo, I’d probably change to SS monoblocks, and leave the valves in the preamp.

I think preamps are the best place to add color to a system.
Having said that a lot of the way your system sounds will come from the speakers, I’ve not heard the triangles but if they have an emphasis on treble, sometimes you just can’t tame that upstream.
