IEM discussion thread (Part 1)

Agreed, and I have been trying to find a nice hybrid set to fill that hole in my collection, but I will stay away from the EST tribrids. They are also some of the most expensive sets on the market, so that works out.

I have been thinking either Audio Hekili, Mangird Tea, Tea MKII, or Yanyin Aladdin.

I keep hoping that HBB would drop that full review on the Audio Hekili … I think he was going to do it when he got hacked, but he had that and the Lava rollout, so I get it. He had brought it up in a couple videos already. The only other reviewer that has done anything on it is Gizaudio, and I am never sure where I am on his reviews. He spoke well of it, without an affiliate link, so that seems like a good sign.

Damn, I need it.

I mean ok, but 700 euros? What else you could get for that money? On top of that wtf is wrong with this surface finish? It is neither nice looking nor functional (think about that it would be in contact with tissue, body fluids, ear wax etc…)

I do have to agree that that finish doesn’t say “$700 product” to me. It looks like it’s made of cheap plastic that belongs on something that costs $50 max.

when i saw it first I thought it was made with some additive manufacturing process (3D printing).

Geez that’s some high praise from Crin. I wish he compared it with the Dark Magician… Didn’t even get a shout-out

He’s not a fan of DM. I just to know the timbre on that thing :upside_down_face:

The case material is apparently ZR01 amorphous zirconium. Odd choice, since it is commonly used for drill bits in the aerospace sector. It has been used in a few generations of the Mars rovers so far. It is light, and strong, but somewhat brittle, probably good for a case material.

While I have handled a bit before and done testing with one, I have never thought about how the metal would feel in my ears. I also have no idea what the finishing process is either, but I agree that looks pretty funky.

It seems like it is indeed 3d printed with SLS technology from some zirconium based alloy AMLOY ZR-01. This manufacturer of the metal powder company claims it is habing some crazy acoustic properties, but that seem like marketing crap. It justifies the price at least. Cool, but aesthetics are still no go for me https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/t21563/new_sennheiser_product_is_just_an_inear_ie_600/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

Bro, have you seen the graph? :grimacing:

Gimme some of that

I haven’t looked at anything yet, I’ll look.

A better CRA. Wonder if bass is too much but Crin says no bleed, slam and A+ techs…

Yes. They fixed the pinna, there is a lot of subbass, there is also midbass. I hope the mids are not very restrained, as they always do. Otherwise, FR looks interesting, but with Senn you have to be careful  . We will wait for the other reviews…

Im definitely digging that graph. Could be endgame for DD fans. I wish there was somewhere around me I could listen to some tribids. Im not looking for my endgame just yet but having only heard DD and Planar its hard for me to invest in tribids without hearing them

Idk man that graph’s looking kinda V-shaped… +5DB bass and that treble… Unless the drivers are really really good it’s gonna affect mids and vocals. That bass to 500hertz and 6-10K peak has me worried…

I tend to agree. I’d like to see something closer to neutral. There is no shortage of v-shaped IEMs. Catering to the masses…

Which is odd, since IEMs aren’t really a mass market thing at this point.

Well it’s all relative. Seems to be the vast majority are buying stuff with some sort of take on a Harman curve, which in itself is v shaped. Then to a greater or lesser degree they f-up the details (weird treble spikes or dips, starting the bass ramp too early etc).

Harman target at least to me seems like a mass market target. What will please the most people… I would have thought that the types of listeners on a forum such as this would not be in the middle of that bell-curve and there would be stronger advocacy for a flatter response.

Had a pair of ie900s and didn’t care for them, especially for the price. Only other Senns i’ve tried were the 58X and same thing on them. The ie900 was my second purchase from them. Don’t know if i’ll be trying another, just not a fan of their tuning.
