Agreed, based on my observations, fit is really what drives isolation, for me this is usually about the case shape and size. I would say tips, but since they are something I can change, I will view them as independent.
I think everything I own is vented save one TWS set ( that has an IPX water resistance rating ), and I have IEMs that isolate well and poorly, and it always seems to come down to the fit of the case.
Iām really not anywhere a part of the speaker section of this site, Iām more familiar with you guys here so Iām sorry if this is totally irrelevant. But I I thought these were pretty cool.
Seriously. Weāre having an event to unveil the new Bentley Bentayga and this company comes through and hooks up the place. Pretty cool talking to the technicians for sure lol
It seems that all have the same gentle and smooth pinna gain (from 1k to 4k) and a recession from 5k to 8k. For me around 5k is where the sibilance is and it can get really annoying. So i avoid IEMs with peaks around that frequency. This might be similar for you.
Bass imo it depends on the music and the mood so itās good have different flavors.
@MMag05 you also mention the peak around 10k. Peaks around 8k and 10k seem to help with sound stage and imaging. I donāt know anything about how it works, just that IEMs that seem to do well at it usually have something going on there.
For me 5k is where tonality can be made or broken - too elevated and vocals sound shouty/metallic/sharp-edged. It can be elevated a lot before itās truly sibilant for me, but it takes timbre and overall presentation for me long before that.
I can be sensitive to consonant sibilance, things like t/ch/sh/ss syllables. I keep meaning to isolate where that is for me with EQ, the one time I spent a couple minutes trying to get rid of it (just using the EQ on a SOny ZX300) I was successful when I reduced the 1-2KHz regionā¦ which is not what I was expecting, I thought those kinds of hissing sounds would be a higher treble region.
It might have been a knock on effect, bending the FR hight up incidentally and not actually home to the 1-2K region, Iād be interested if it makes sense or sounds whack that it helped.
Dude, you killed it with this shot. Very nice. Product photography is not my specialty, and honestly uploading it to the site absolutely crushed the image, itās so compressed, it looks about 4 stops under exposed but I promise it looked great on my computer!
Thank you again for the kind words. If youāre shooting in raw, you can really do a lot of adjustments to get things looking better in post. Hereās a little quick work on your photoā¦ I love how rich and saturated the colors are.
@Resolution My more revised edit on it. I also reduced the export quality to hopefully reduce the compression on the site. Thanks for pushing me to do a better job, man, sometimes you need that!
Are you sure they actually went up for sale? I think they are just saying out of stock on their page but the release hasnāt happened yet.
Slightly off topic though. Iāve been listening to the Penon Serial for the last day, after quite a bit of tip rolling I found a great match and wow is that bass amazing. Itās like no other bass I have heard. Its weird but it triggers other senses for me, itās not just that I can feel it and hear it but I can almost touch it as well and feel the detail and texture of it. Itās so good and Idk if I can live without it haha.
The treble is still kind of lacking for me and the Canons win out in air and detail hands down. However with the Canon I feel like everything is happening above me. The bass comes in from on high and I think part of that is the reason I feel like Iām not engaged with the music. Also it doesnāt help I canāt use silicon tips with the Canon.
I think my endgame would be an IEM with the Serials bass and miss but with some more air and treble extension. The Vulkan seems like it might fit that description based on the graph and the fact itās using BAs for upper mids and treble.
would love to know @hawaiibadboy thoughts on that when he can start talking about the Vulkan
