IEM discussion thread (Part 1)

Regular M, but resin shell.

I mentioned it months ago so I’m not sure if I can take credit. It’s a great IEM (I have the XR). Enjoy :call_me_hand:

Damn that is a nice version I couldn’t wrap my head what the difference was for the resin vs metal if it changed the sound signature but what I will say is the Xduoo Mt-604 I picked up made the Metal LAVA I have a a different beast, bass now hits with authority and defiantly likes the tubes to give it a more mellowed tuning where the crazy expansive stage doesn’t distract you as much and you get to enjoy the music more. Definitely a good combo if your keeping the EJ07M think about picking one up if you don’t already have a tube amp. I have a Loxjie P20 as well but the 2w on the Xduoo has oomph. J

My listening solutions are chiefly as mobile as possible, but I appreciate you sharing this!

There is always the Cayin N3Pro for some tube-ish mobile action! :sunglasses:

Why did you have to mention that one now it’s on my list now too.!

First I got the HiBy R6 2020 and that made a big difference from the Qudelix 5K and Hip Dac then the tube amps this is a terrible hobby for the wallet!

Just got home to some toys waiting for me: Letshuoer D13 & Oriolus Isabellae! And a leather coaster-thing that came with the D13!

Gonna be gone all weekend, but impressions to follow over the coming week.

how does it compare to your Olina?
I’ve heard these are a bit lean. how do they respond to EQ?

haven’t done any direct comparisons with Dioko yet besides Timeless I’ll try to compare to the Olina this weekend
also I generally don’t EQ so likely won’t have an answer on that
(some initial memory comparisons though is that Dioko is in the middle between Olina and Timeless)

Same I still like them as well but I rarely use them nowadays since the Kato and Airship have been in my daily use. The ZS10 Pro however didn’t last long for its 2pin slot got broken and it was submerged on my coffee cup while I was drinking it due to my clumsiness, to this day it still has driver pressure on that piece every time I put it in my ears.

idk about other sets but Variations are notorious for their QC issues, weird that no reviewers talk about it.
And though I understand that transducers are the main focus if one were to upgrade, it’s a shame that Apple dongle is overhyped as an end all be all solution by some when they have audio shops nearby their places where they test different sources and experience the difference.

Experiences may differ and that is okay, but I whole heartedly disagree with both of you. I have heared many amplifiers from the apple dongle over hyped up Topppings and up to different 1kilo buck amps expressedly recommended by the headphone manufacturer themselves to pair with their headphones. I tested them with cheap IEMs, expensive IEMs and top of the line open back Headphones.

My personal findings:

  • as long as there is enough power with open back headphones I can’t hear a difference between a 200$ (not recommended by ASR) soundcard and a 1k$ dedicated amp recommended by the headphone manufacturer
  • for IEMs almost always a simple dongle has enough power (iem power problems with things like apple dongles are 95% (very real) driver issues and gimped EU versions)
  • for sensitive IEMs the amp does make a difference based on output impedance alone. I think this is where most people get confused as many seem to prefer how the IEM response arbitrarily changes with some specific output impedance of some amp, where as “technically/objectively” speaking that amp has often a worse/higher output impedance.

Many people did that test and came to similiar conclusions as me (Dan, Crinacle). Many people did that test and came to different conclusions. Almost no one does the test in a scientific way (e.g. ABx test/impedance matching/etc.) to exclude placebo.

A couple of initial thoughts on the Letshuoer D13:

  • expansive sound; not the widest soundstage I’ve ever heard, but everything in a track has room to breathe. Imaging is decent, but far from top-notch.
  • bass is imapctful, yet well controlled. Works well for D&B, Hip-Hop, other low end dependent genres
  • relaxing: not an IEM for trebleheads or detail maniacs, but rather one to throw on and lose yourself in an album. It’s not without treble or details, but those are not the highlight here.
  • They are TINY; they fit my ears well, but I could see people possibly having to go up 1/2-1 sizes from their normal tips.
  • The cable is a nice, light, no-frills no tangles affair. I like it.
  • Sensitivity is high; on my Hiby r3 pro, running single-ended, it needs 5-8 steps less volume than most of my IEMs, including Letshuoer’s other models (EJ07/KL, S12). You can drive these with most anything.

Digging it so far, no regret in the purchase (especially at the early bird price). Will detail more with further listening and tip-rolling (mostly Sednafit Light so far. I am also only using the “default” silver nozzle/filters, I will try swapping with the gold ones later.

I don’t know how you feel about this, but maybe you would get more visibility if you reach out to the editor Jürgen and write a follow-up post for more advanced mods? I think they have fairly good visibility, although I understand if you think it’s just more work lol

oh, I did get an invite a few years ago to join them, declined because I prefer staying solo.

Otherwise I have compiled a lot here:

Looked that guy up and I had to laugh:

He has been known as “Otto Motor” to Head-Fiers, as “Dr. Schweinsgruber” to audiobudget.com users and Youtubers, and as “Brause” to Super Best Audio Friends and the Headphone Community. - For the purpose of confusion, he decided to pose under his real name Jürgen Kraus (“JK”) from now on.

Too bad there is another youtuber:

So much for the confusion part xD

Olina does Vocals better Dioko has better bass, treble is similar between the two.
quite the compliment for the Olina since I’m a sucker for planar string playback.
on another note Dioko blocks out a lot more noise passively than Olina if that matters for anyone (me with a loud ass AC in a tiny room)

do you use modded olina or stock?
what about sound stage and 3D factor? Olina is amazing in this regard… can dioko compete or even surpass?
