IEM discussion thread (Part 1)

So earlier, in order for my ZS10’s cable to mold onto my ears well I have to like do the method of what Zeos mentioned about the BLON BL03’s stock cable. I basically lit the stiff parts of the cable that where it hooks your ears a bit of fire, and now it’s much a better fit. But yeah, I am not even going to bother doing that to my BL03’s stock cables because my god I am not a fan of its cable along with its tips. Hey, at least the MH755’s tips and a KBEAR cable made it much better than before.

L/R identification.

Hey, at least better than an entirely different IEM that you have not ordered. Also technically Gray is close to Black so in a sense it’s kind of true.

The different shades (not sure if thats the term) for the grey is so you can easier identify the different sizes. Its quite a good thing in my opinion.

indeed it can be a good thing. though when it comes to colors I prefer my colors mostly on the black and blue spectrum, and the Starfields are close to blue with a bit of purple so it’s one of the reasons why it’s my favorite right now along with the BL03s.

Well, luckily for you the colors on tip is only on the stem, so shouldnt ruin your color matching lol.

Yeah true, also when I have the money again I’ll buy the cables you have recommended to me for the Starfields. Yes I need to make them much more beautiful than they are right now, I simply just love the look of it and I hope the paint does not chip off anytime soon but I am sure I will be careful of it as I am with my IEMs.

Dont know if you could use blue paint + glitter and just a paint a random cable though :joy:

Yeah I have been thinking about that also but I am not really good at painting shit or anything related to DIY stuff and now I wish my dad could have taught me more about DIY and shit. Sure there are videos on how to do those things but it’s much of a legit experience when someone who is experienced with it is teaching you in person. So I’ll just buy the Yinyoo cable that you’ve sent to me the other day for it is a safer bet.

Sounds good. I personally havent used those yinyoo cables, but they should be similar to a lot of other 16 core cables on aliexpress, which a lot of people are using. So shouldnt be any problems with it.

Yinyoo is good though, I saw some of their cables and I think in person they are very good. Kind of like JCALLY because when I bought 2 cables from them for my T2s and ZS10 Pros, I never knew their cables are freaking good for the budget and now those 2 are looking much unique than before. T2s having the gold-yellowish cable while my ZS10 Pro having the plain black one. So I think I’ll be ok with Yinyoo, except for TRN though, so far they have been a bit disappointing in regards of the cable because the cable for my T2s from TRN didn’t last long.

Also speaking about the ZS10 Pro, I think I might have been a bit harsh on them when it comes to the tier list I have made for my IEMs, this thing should be at least A on my list and not B lol. I gave them a listen again after a long time and yeah I guess it’s a competition against the T2s but I love the T2s more so, a bit of a bias happened but I think the ZS10 is at least A along with the T2s.

Here are my top 3 cables for value:

The problem is I’m broke and just need one iem to use with my phone

I can’t buy that much

I think ranking lists by people with a lot of experience is very helpful to others. But yes, it is more important to find a reviewer with as close taste as you.

But if there are multiple ranking lists and one iem is at the top on all of them, that should mean that it is a good iem.

Well I can say that doesn’t work out for amp tier lists at least from my experience lol, seen way too many bad amps at the tops of the lists recently lol. But for iems it could potentially be true (but haven’t looked into too many iem tier lists to really say anything)

I think there is way too much subjectivity that goes into it and criteria that isn’t quite clear to the reader. For one big one, value. Some reviewers put that into big consideration, some do not. Some readers may care, some do not.
One big example, tons of reviewers placed BLON BL03 extremely high for its sound + value. I didn’t quite care for it. Again, subjective

Also regarding tier lists signal chains and synergy aren’t factored in as well (which really matters for totl iems for example)

value matters a lot for me as well as quality… i basically am trying to make a venn diagram between “critically beloved, having detail but also punch”, “works with the V shaped songs i usually use” and “costs under 150 dollars”

also i dunno about the starfields because they are pretty warm and low impact and not so detailed
