IEM discussion thread (Part 1)

It’s a shame the Rosefinch didn’t vibe with you. I’m thrilled you actually gave them a shot, however.

That’s all very fair. I’m trying to do EQs right now with Kai, comparing to Vortex’s FR (apples to apples comparison of driver tech), and if I had to choose a FR, I’d take Kai over Vortex. I like Vortex’ superior clarity and mid-bass bump, but the lack of upper-mid energy is a killer to me for rock. Plus Kai has a little extra in the sub-bass that works.

The ideal to me would be Kai’s FR with a bump in the 6-8k range to give the extra clarity. So thanks at least for the thought experiment.

And yeah, I do appreciate that you tried Rosefinch out even if it’s not a winner. I guess I won’t be converting anybody but domq over but I’m so glad you listened to it. Just the fact that I convinced you to do that is a huge win to me

+1 to this. The vortex is a pretty amazing single DD

Yeah the issue with the cheaper stuff for me is they are impossible to sell off. I don’t mind taking a loss but I prefer not to have a bunch of stuff sitting around

So I have been trialing the IE600 and for rap/hip hop its great but for pop its been a bit sharp and fatiguing so I wanted to try a bit of “modding” and added an Olina filter on top of the nozzle and that has helped a ton. Im still in the trial period and not 100% sold long term on them but its been a lot better with the filter for me. Also I really wish I had a 2.5 balanced cable to try them out with… I feel like it would be a lot better on balanced

Been doing some tip rolling and landed on the Spinfit CP100 plus, these things have done wonders for my IEMs wow. I’ve never felt a fit this secure and since I can get a perfect seal unlike most of the tips I’ve tried, the resolution is just chefs kiss

anybody hear these before? Local sale near me which might be an interesting drive to demo them. They are pretty but I have 0 clue about tuning, technicals, and build quality.

final x DITA Shichiku Kangen

Which lower cost IEM’s do you guys like better than higher cost ones you own or have listened to?

Good question. You are asking for high price to performance iems. My pick would be:

  1. HM
  2. Salnotes Zero
  3. KBear Dumpling
  4. Final e500/e1k
  5. TRN CS3

I like the Seeaudio Yume Midnight more than the Blessing 2 and Thieaudio Excalibur

Yeah, looks interesting. Seems pretty far from his usual tuning, but he bought it anyway. The graph looks like something I’d enjoy. He did say it still felt like BA bass, even though it was elevated. He doesn’t believe in source differences, but I wonder how it sounds with more power/different output impedances

timeless v2 incoming?

Saw this on Head-Fi

Olina OG/Olina SE and Etymotic ER2SE/XR. These sets are way better than some higher ones, best price to performance that I listened.
Due to timbre and tuning I could say the same about HBB Mele.

My main issue with the timeless is fit - the sound was never ever an issue for me, so to see the shell design being relatively the same is disappointing- we shall see!

I think this is more a collab than a timeless 2 but i could be wrong

Angel Ears recently did a collab with Bravery as well, has anyone heard that?
