TWS Sound Demo - QCY T18 vs Lenovo XT98 vs Huawei Freebuds Pro 2 vs Devialet Gemini

Budget sets get better and better. Personally I like the Lenovos more than the QCY. The Freebuds and the Geminis are both fantastic. Devialet put some magic sauce in these. Makes me wonder how their speakers sound like.

It’s my edc and the first time in this hobby I have had zero interest in other sets because of it. Its also the most expensive IEM I have tried so I can’t compare it to things in a similar price bracket outside of the Moonlight.

TL;DR

If you enjoy a V shape and DD sound I think you will really like the IE600

Summary

This set is an interesting one for me because I don’t have any of the issues with the treble that others seem to. I can consistently listen to this set at 90-100db without issue whereas the Olina becomes way too much for me at those levels. I somewhat agree with the lack of slam, especially in the mid bass but the sub bass can definitely put out. My head reverberates on Why So Serious.

One thing I noticed is that when listening at 75-85db they come off as relatively neutral. Its not until you bump past 85db where the mids start show up and the bass starts to rumble. Bass is very clean and quick compared to, say the bass in the Moonlight.

I will say that mids could definitely be better in general, although its a V shape so it kind of comes with the territory. Mids are definitely not recessed or scoped imo

EDIT: Idk why it had me responding to @nymz. It should have been a response to @Andy_Pickard

Thank you for the detailed response that helps a lot.

Looking to trade/sell my Dunu SA6 Ultra , pm me if interested :v:

Anyone have thoughts on the SQ as well as how these sets hold up in 2022 :

  1. TRI I3 Pro
  2. Hifiman RE800 Silver

I own and like both. But, If I had to pick one it’ll be the I3 Pro. Because it fits my library better.
I3 Pro positives:

  • Addicting Bass shelf
  • Comfier fit
  • Non-fatiguing sound signature
  • Quality build
  • Great for Hip-Hop, EDM, Rock

I3 Pro negatives:

  • Not a clarity, detail monster

The Hifiman positives

  • Snappy performance
  • Clarity and details
  • Great for Vocals, Acoustic, Singer/Songwriter, Soft Rock, Pop, Podcasts, video watching
  • Tiny shells

Hifiman negatives

  • bass is lacking
  • fit needs getting used to
  • due to fit I can’t use them for very long times, seal is thight
  • rubbery cable not changeable

I think they are very complementary as can be seen in the graphs.

I did a sound demo a while back.

Thanks a lot. Really helpful.
Would you still rate them against the competition today?

Both seem almost specialist.

And regarding the Re800 - seemed crazy that a once €500ish IEM can now be picked up for €50ish in the 11.11 sale

Both are still competitive. The Tri was only released in August 2021. The Hifiman is a few years older but the driver inside is still top notch. You can’t go wrong If you get it for €50.

My Starfields broke after I sent back my Olina SE and won’t get my Serratus for who knows how long  come on man

Edit: nvm it’s just my apple dongle which is equally just as annoying considering I have to buy like 6 of these things a year from how easy they break :person_facepalming:

I got one of these in a trade with someone and it’s been good, hopefully won’t break off entirely or anything but a case lip around it helps to make that less likely. No cord to kink/fail as has happened for me too!

TC35i

To be fair I had no idea they cost this much new… might be worth it instead of 6*$10 if they really do fail on you that often, but it’s debatable.

i3pro is stil valid today. My recent comparison in Dunu Talos Review proved it. (Not yet released)

“”vs TRI i3 Pro
i3 Pro is both old gen and more power inefficient and a tribrid which contains only 1 planar driver. However, bass is more controlled yet the same smoothness remains. Clarity is definitely behind Dunu Talos, layering too.

But considering that each driver controls one frequency band and it’s slightly worn due to its age, still doing a very fine job in extensions, bass slam in electronics and headphone-like airy soundstage.””

Much appreciated

Maybe the 7HZ dongle would be better?

I am a big fan of that 7Hz dongle. It has become my regular at work.

I picked up two of them on sale for the lady and I, can’t stand these bent-a-little-inside-my-iem-carry-case-and-then-cause-pain-to-my-hearing dongels that are sold on department stores.

Anyone know if Penon does an 11/11 sale like Linsoul? I’m losing patience waiting for that Penon email/sale to show up so I can instantly order the Serial and Vortex.

If my memory serves me: They don’t really do 11.11 except for discounts on their ISN store on Aliexpress which aren’t usually too groundbreaking (especially as all prices on that store get tax added on, unlike prices on their main site).

What I can’t remember for myself but have heard from someone recently, is that they do some neat things on Black Friday rather than 11.11

The main thing with Penon, is to sign up to their newsletter. They are very generous to past and potential buyers through that, is all I will say.
