IEM discussion thread (Part 1)

Hbb replied. That sample on the graph is not the quartet.

No its not HBB confirmed his is a 2 DD ISO config and 3 BA $140-$150 ish

FAN 2 is absolutely fantastic to me my new favorite and I am doing 64 Audio U4s compare side by side and hits 95% of the special sauce of the 64 audio but in my opinion better vocals and better faster bass that exceeds the $1200 IEM

And yes the FAN2 code still works for 1/2 price $140 USD.

I am still doing my review for the F2 but if anyone wants to jump on the deal DM me and I will share it with you.

Fitment is the only issue need to tip roll.
Actually advice from @rattlingblanketwoman below gave me the magic tip for the tips. Thank you!
Use a smaller one that normal and the long nozzle gets deeper.

So bingo I used a Whizzer S22 tip and magic no Fitment issues.

I find the nozzle/shell takes them quite deep (but because it fits my ear) so I size down and use smaller spiral dots (fotm at least), isolation is great as a result.

Note: If folks find out about a 1/2 price code and plan to use it, please sign up for their mailing list as that is how they send it to people and donā€™t like it when they see the code is being circulated outside of their mailing list. They have withdrawn codes in the past when they noticed they were being shared around at large.

Iā€™m not one to throw out a lot of album suggestions, but if you guys want something that plays fantastically with imaging/staging and oddly choice production for a low-fi sound, check out the album ā€œBlack and Whiteā€ by The Stranglers. Special mention to their cover of ā€œWalk on Byā€ which plays almost like some lost Doors single, despite being a Burt Bacharach song written for Dionne Warwick.
Edit: whoops, misplaced post. Mods move as necessary.

The Stranglers are dope :+1: and is music ever really misplaced on a HiFi forum :man_shrugging:t2:

100% Agree please sign up for the Penon mailing list so the code doesnā€™t get squashed it would be a shame.

I also have asked Penon if I am allowed to share code on my upcoming Video review so I will report back.

To the owners of the maestro mini: mind giving out some opinions on how these tracks sound to you on them?

Full OST here if youā€™re interested:

Man what a great game that was. And I only had the shareware demo (it only had the Labrat and Psychedlia levels)

EDIT: Sorry, Iā€™m talking about JJR2

So ā€œHippie Heavenā€ and ā€œLabratā€ from this soundtrack. Also ā€œDiamondus remixā€ on the 2 player map.

Your luck my friend itā€™s playable via an online emulator

Thanks! I have DOSbox on my Mac, but Iā€™m worried about time if I install games. Anyway sorry for the diversion!

Ah no worries. I have a lot of down time at work usually. For whatever weird reason most forums are blocked yet, these online emulator sites are good. You have no idea how much time I kill slaying old games.

The soundtrack lives in higher quality than the game itself to me
Also am I mistaken or do you have a maestro mini yourself? Oh and Iā€™m not sure if it came through but the two tracks I was talking about in particular werr Diomondus and Tubelectric.

Iā€™ll be happy to try to help.

Give me a little bit and Iā€™ll do this after my son and I have breakfast :+1:

@RockinDave - well this was a very interesting listen I must admit!

To summarize the best I can, the Maestros play these tracks with a beautiful analog timbre, with lots of texture and awesome, fun dynamics. Itā€™s obvious there isnā€™t much sub bass in these tracks, but lots of mid bass and the Maestros play that part of the FR fairly cleanly.

Iā€™d say, very fun, warm and analog in nature. Do you have any specific questions I can answer? Iā€™ll keep ā€˜em in my ears just in case :handshake:

Sorry no Maestro mini, but I have heard/owned them in the past. Glad Dom could jump in!

Man, you donā€™t make my life easy right now! Even at 50%, paying now than $10 on anything not crucial is impossible after this rough month for my financesā€¦
I promised myself I wouldnā€™t buy any set or gear for at least 2 months, and you show me thisā€¦

First world FOMO problem, I know.

No questions here so thanks man!
I am thinking that the Maestro isnā€™t necessarily for my type of listening since I notice more sub-bass than mid-bass talk and think I prefer mid-bass over sub-bass, or at least where even when sub-bass is stronger itā€™s not the defining feature. If anyone cares to experiment with that soundtrack for me on sets with a bit of mid-bass focus let me know, youā€™ll love the music at the very least :sunglasses:

Anytime brother!

If you have any other suggestions or questions for me, Iā€™d be happy to oblige! While the Minis are undoubtedly Sub Over Mid, the excessive Sub bass gives the Mid bass so much body and depth with amazing thump that it is very enjoyable.

But like with anything, ya like what ya like :sunglasses:

Damnā€¦ now youā€™ve got me curious about them againā€¦ anyone got a mini set I could demoā€¦?
I should say that I own a QKZ x HBB set, any comparisons with that to the Maestro Mini?

I too own the QKZxHBB - I havenā€™t A/Bā€™d them, but I can for you, Dave. Howā€™s that sound? Just give me some time and ill get that done for you.

Any songs in particular youā€™d like me to test them with?
