IEM discussion thread (Part 1)

Honestly just the Jazz Jackrabbit soundtrack again, it’s such an addicting soundtrack

I got you brother :sunglasses: may take me some time, but I’ll get to it :handshake:

Hey guys, is the Symphonium Meteor considered the top U-shaped signature iem currently or at least in the top bracket?

I wouldnt it consider it the top U shaped IEM personally. When you say U are you specifically looking for recessed mids? If so I think the Mest is better, albeit more expensive. I enjoyed the P1 Max more than the Meteor which you may call a mild U. If you are looking for something more W than the IE600 is really great. Overall, I was not a big fan of the Meteor

Id say so, up to at least the kilobuck region.

I like balanced signatures (that’s kinda what U-shaped is yeah?) with with a bit of extra oomf in the bass (particularly the mid-bass), so if I’m not mistakened the Mele, Kai, and Mahina follow my tastes really well in that regard. The Mest huh? I thought that set was more for people who want OCD details from what I’ve gathered lol

U-Shape stand for bass and treble boost without recessed mids (that would be a V shape).

What you are describing is not U shape but rather a warm balanced, where treble is less than neutral, mids and bass are more forward than neutral. Balanced because the three frequencies end up competing for the bandwith.

Thanks

Aaah! Thank you nymz, I’ve been confusing people probably with not knowing how to put that down correctly lol
With that in mind would you see something like the Meteor being for me more than the MEST then?

yeah as @nymz said you are describing more warm balanced. The meteors are less forward in the mids, especially compared to the Mahina. Bass on the meteors is bigger but drier compared to the mele and mahina. I don’t particularly like the Meteor’s bass presentation. I would steer away form the Mest if you are looking for that type of signature

Oooo, drier you say? :face_with_diagonal_mouth:
I might have to see if I can get a listen to it to know if I like that because I love the bass of the Mele and Mahina.

What is it you are looking for that your current IEMs aren’t giving you? What do you like/not like about them? Clarity? Soundstage? Ficc bass?

Also genres you tend to listen to might help us steer you in the right direction:)

Have you looked at XENNS UP?

This sounds like Fan 2.

Meteor has extra mid-bass quantity and sounds more impactful though sometimes drowns to the mids. Also Meteor has more treble extension and quantity that surprisingly not fatiguing (for me at least) but I find P1 Max treble quality and extension more pleasing.

I feel a U-shaped set has to deliver fairly heavily on the sub-bass to get that first part of the “U” in.

The Fan 2 has fantastic mid-bass, and enough sub-bass for most cases, but I wouldn’t call it a U shaped set.

I’ve got both the Mest MKII and Meteor. For me the Meteor is a more fun punchy midbass choice. In all other regards, except treble extension, I feel the Mest MKII towers Meteor. Meteor though is the one I’ll reach for the most between those two.

True, Fan 2 is not U shape but based on the description, balanced signature with extra mid-bass that sounded like Fan 2 :slightly_smiling_face:

Now that I’ve got my sets back and listened to them today I can hear what your saying. I wonder if this is an issue of BA vs DD bass? Either way I still enjoy the hell out of Meteor.

After hearing different opinions about different signatures, let’s also hear an opinion about the IE600 signature. Everyone describes it differently: some as U, others as W, others as V. For me, I know what it is, but I’m interested to hear what other dudes think? :sunglasses:
