IEM discussion thread (Part 1)

He may actually need them to get a proper seal.

THAT makes sense, it’s like screaming into a valley then

He should look into other forms of custom tips, something like what Custom Arts offers. Much easier to use and clean and put away they seem.

I think the issue with someone like Zeos is that custom tips often have to be shaped to specific sets, and since he’s a reviewer he could only get them for a unit or two that he wants to keep but everything else still needs universals. Foams are probably the best compromise for his situation.

I think Custom Arts do tips just matching to nozzel sizes if I’m not mistakened, so he could potentially fit them to multiple different sets.

While this could work, just fitting on the nozzle instead of the nozzle AND fact of an IEM adds a considerable amount of width to the fit. He also probably just doesn’t care that much. We could always just ask him.

True, and it’s possible he’s unaware of the options that are out there.

Dude basically has a dakoni sponsorship. He’s probably got all the tips he’ll ever need anyway

I have small ear holes and I find foams really uncomfortable, and that seems to be a common problem. I guess it doesn’t surprise me that larger means they are almost required.

I have small-ish ear canals and it’s super painful to use the cylindrical tips like dunu S&S or the ones from the Timeless

Yep, the CA custom tips are mostly matched to nozzle size (though other variables still apply), but they perform best with the IEMs they were designed for.
They sit firmly on CE Aurum, but at the same time they are quite wobbly on Penon FAN 2 and sometimes they stay in my ears after taking IEMs out.

Twilights just landed - was like 80% excited / 20% scared to plug these in. Yeah, no, didn’t need to worry, ohhhhh man do I like these. Yeah these are really, really good - dynamic (I know that sounds kinda obvious but it stands out), well balanced, T_I_M_B_R_E so hits the spot for me. Not cheap right enough, but I think probably just about worth it - early days, but 100% keepers. Have to seriously consider what sets to let go now.
Shoutout to Andrew at Musicteck for stellar service as usual, ordered Tues and arrived in UK today :rocket:

For our music, only good DD. Good choice! I had my sights set on them, but chose Senn, which I really like. Maybe one day… :love_you_gesture:

Absolutely - yep it was a real hard choice between the Twilights and the IE600s, think they are different enough to have both - so yes maybe one day! How’s the new Cattle Decapitation?

Cattle Decapitation is fantastic and sounds like it on the IE600. I think the Twilights are more versatile and will sound better on older records as well because the Senn sounds awful on bad old records. And yes, I will try them one day, there are a lot of good reviews for them! :slightly_smiling_face:

The itch is real…

man aint that the truth. Its hard for me to listen to older music with the IE600

Older records have always needed a set with ample warmth for sure, anything with boosted treble or ultra-clean lower mids like the Monarchs for example do not let older recordings shine. Going by the graph, those twilights look the business for classic rock and older Jazz recordings… I can only imagine the timbre and heft on something like a sax…

Exactly, and the IE600 has both of those traits so it doubles down on the problem. I have tried listening to some older rock songs and they sound thin and void of life.
