IEM discussion thread (Part 1)

Iol…the land does rise and quite a bit being the UK, thankful the Victorians were a smart bunch who built the canals, they created locks to raise and lower the water level so boats could navigated across the country :+1:

Funny you say that a local HiFi dealer was very impressed, as being on water should help with sound dampening speaker wise etc lol…David Gilmour still has his Astoria boat/recording studio moored outside his house on the Thames at Hampton so who knows :man_shrugging:

I replaced the mesh filter as it came with 6 spares and have used them for maybe 3 hours now with no problems, so it looks like that was the issue. Didn’t know a mesh filter could have that effect.

nice, Moondrop themselves have said that most of the stuff people return because of a problem is due to moisture and clogged up mesh filters.

A new Fiio BTR5/3 and earstudio es100 rival? It looks super tiny though.

Do you guys use these bluetooth dac/amps for your smartphones? Or what is your portable/desktop source for iems?

I use the Ibasso DX160 for both portable and desktop with my iems. (I do have a toppping E10 > JDS Ol switch > JDS Atom/Little Dot 1+ setup for my desktop though)

I have a questyle qp2r arriving on Thursday, so that will be my only portable setup. I’m switching from Tidal on my iPhone so I should see a nice step up. I am also going to use it as a DAC/AMP on my Mac.

I am not a massive fan of bluetooth, but I do understand why a lot of people enjoy the ease of use.

Would you guys like to see chi-fi manufacturers giving the option to buy their “B-stock/blemished” units for a cheaper price?

Like for example, the Periodic Audio BE sells for 300 usd while the blemished units are selling for 200 usd.

Nice idea but that would be assuming there was QC in the first place…the IT00 saga says otherwise? lol

oof, maybe not for the cheaper iems but for stuff above 100 or 200 usd could be helpful.

Does anyone really know about ChiFi QC? as it appears to be very hit and miss tbh.

Well, I personally only experienced 1 single issue with my 50+ iems. And that was the channel imbalance in the Ibasso IT00.

I consider myself very lucky though, because I see reports on head-fi about people getting moisture issues, unit variance, wrong drivers (not beryllium in their Urbanfun ISS014 and instead it is a “noble” metal).

Of course I do believe these issues people are having are the minority as people that dont have a problem wont be as vocal about it lol.

Then there are brands that have a bad reputation due to their bad QC, like TRN with their non-soldered 8 core cables and their moisture problem in the BA5 .

I don’t have 50+ IEMs, I’m a newb, but I’m with you. The IT00 is the only IEM or headphone I’ve had any issue with.

Well fortunately there seems to only have been 3 cases so far with channel imbalance with the IT00.

you and me and also BGGAR.

Tough at the mo for potential purchases so much good stuff…Interested in what Chris thinks about the UM MEST but might go cheaper :grimacing: :man_shrugging:

Anybody know who sells legit mh755’s? The usual kanoya eBay seller is away/out of stock

By their feedback these seem legit?..

wasnt the MH755 around 8 usd or something? Seems like the price doubled or something lol.

You can almost 8x the 8 usd if you want a legit one that’s modded with a removable mmcx cable :open_mouth:

Isnt the biggest strenght with the MH755 the low price? Feels like paying that much for it defeats its purpose lol.
