JAY's audio memes (and reviews/ranking too I guess)

Great chill format. I think this is perfect. Nice job!

Prestige LTD first impressions (10 hours)

Thank you to the legend @Sonofholhorse for allowing me the chance to hear these bad boys

That aside:
–LOTS of details, more than MK3 due to a combination of better treble extension and others
–Stage has a laid back presentation and feels bigger/deeper than MK3/very open head-space
–Vocals are at “normal” distance/maybe slightly pushed back to give a sense of openness
–Natural timbre with no peaks and harshness at mid volume (can get hot at higher volumes)
–TOTL layering and resolution, very technically capable
–Male vocals are not as forward/bodied versus MK3 (note-weight as well)
–MK3 still has better bass texture and overall low-end impact
–Clean presentation, basically a MK2 with more treble air and stage depth
–Gets sharp on POP/KPOP/JPOP tracks with overemphasized uppermids–>for these genres MK3 is still better, whereas indie/rock/acoustic/classical LTD is better

Comparison with MK3 and Hype 2 soon :sunglasses:

Hype 2 review :call_me_hand:

I guess one thing I do disagree that this isn’t basshead levels, but I guess I’m talking about bassheads who don’t want their mids and highs getting overwhelmed too lol. These IEMs have enough “power” to make bass tracks really satisfying for this basshead (though of course nothing in the IEM world could still beat the deep rumble of Fatfreqs haha).
But yeah, at this price these would be my “endgame” neutral-ish reference. Everything up from this price range are more specialised in bass (Fatfreq, nightjar singularity etc. etc.)

having used the Hype 2 I didnt think the bass was particularly large. I think because of the mid bass tuck the bass shines well on EDM tracks but suffers on rap. Even on EDM though it never got basshead levels for me.

Basshead level to me is ROSEFINCH/Maestro Mini levels of bass :joy:

The lighter mid-bass and not so “in your face” low-end are additional reasons as well. The rumble is there tho

Oh yeah when it comes to basshead nothing can beat the maestros haha. I think what I’m talking more is basshead appreciation because while it isn’t basshead in volume, the technicalities, power and tuning (for my taste at least that midbass tuck and sub lift is what I look for) still makes the bass pretty sastisfying for me. Especially as you say, without muddying the vocals and midrange. It’s like a very well tuned sub.

Ya for sure it’s quality bass. I guess we can call it a “bass-set”, but not basshead if that works :man_shrugging:

Yeah that’s fair. Mostly because I do think that you would get this set if quality bass is something that you’re looking for too. If not there are sets like the quintet, timeless etc. Or if you’re just looking for BASS you would just get something like the Legato.
The mix of quality powerful bass and great vocals is what I’m looking though.

If you aren’t looking for quality bass you are doing this whole hobby wrong imo. Bass is such an integral part of music and if you want a high quality replay it requires high quality bass.

Listening to music with absent and/or low quality bass is like playing a shooter without haptic feedback. It’s functional but just feels wrong

I agree, which is why I find it weird how bass shy most of the enthusiasts and reviewers are. I remember in my early day when I still don’t know much about the hobby getting a Noble trident because everyone said how good it was and there was literally no subbass lol. Like it didn’t extend to below 100hz. For example people love the blessing series but I always found them far too bright and dry.

My choice of $700-$1000 IEM would be a KL FR with added bass +reshell → holographic stage, separate and controlled bass, perfect mids, good treble, good vocals, very fast DD CNT. If you get a chance to hear it, do so.
In the $1000-1900 range - Prestige LTD, I haven’t bought it yet, but I will one of these days! And with that, my journey will be over and I will only be here to give advice :grinning:!!!

Nah it’s still good, I just prefer the Hype 2 or Studio 4 over it depending on price. I already made a video on that so I didn’t want to repeat it again, check the pinned comment!
