Tyll from headfi always praised the HD600 as tube lovers and I canât disagree. I only run them off of tube amps and Iâm a big fan
yes the HD6xx on my Darkvoice is my favorite listen out my entire collection. canât really go wrong if youâre looking for a good set for tubes. Iâve heard that the HD600 is also really great on tubes, and apparently a lot of people prefer them over the 6xx for tube driven.
Other headphones that work really well are Neumann NDH20 and some of the 250-600 ohm beyerdynamic cans. also pretty much anything sennheiser that is above 150ohm will work fairly well on DV.
If itâs not going to be a financial hardship, everybody should have an electrostatic set in their collection. However, you also have to include a Schiit Loki or some type of EQ in the purchase.
They are Very different. If you are hooked on variety, as I am, it is a cool option. I love being able to go from Grado/Vali 2 to Grado/Burson Fun-Classic to Beyer T5p.2âs/LCX to Koss system to other variations.
If your motto is âvariety is the spice of lifeâ, and the purchase is not a hardship, itâs a nice addition to the collection. Of course I am still in the âshiny new toy syndromeâ phase, soâŠ
I like the 600s slightly more than the 6xx, but I already owned the 6xx when I bought them. If I hadnât, I agree that the 6xx is pretty incredible on tubes, and it probably is tuned a little better than the 600s off of other amps
At $400 the 95x is one of the best value purchases Iâve ever made in this hobby. $400 wouldnât even cover an amp or headphone from Stax at the low end of their offerings, and from most accounts the 95x sounds better than the L300 and L500.
Def agree with this. Itâs really good
Alright, well I decided to order the 95x. Honestly itâs mostly of a âI have to knowâŠâ type of feeling with an expectation that it wonât be incredibly impressive. Iâm sure they are GREAT, but every headphone I own I feel are GREAT⊠so itâs a bit like âhow many great headphones do you really need?â lol.
But I need to know⊠I have not been able to stop thinking about it. I also take the point of having the Loki in the chain really helping with things too, but Iâll try them vanilla first.
Ha, I did the same thing an hour ago for the same exact reasons.
I canât imagine a scenario where you guys wonât be happy with them. I like them most off of my Airist R2R, but they sound good regardless.
I did not jump on them the first day of the sale and then figured it was too late. Iâm happy to hear opinions of them are so favorable. @ the current price it was too good to pass up and I would be kicking myself for months if I didnât purchase. who needs food, clothes and essentials anywayâŠpffftttt
They weigh next to nothing, and the pads are ok but a little unrefined. You can order replacement pads for $5 (!!!) from Kossâs website, but I grabbed the Dekoni Fenestrated Sheepskin pads for them and they make them a lot more comfortable. They were pretty comfy to start, but the velour is a bit itchy
Yeah itâs comfy but the build is on the cheaper side, but they do have a lifetime warranty from koss
Where did you get the Dekoni pads from, i canât seem to find them, please.
Drop had them a few weeks back. I want to say I paid $65?
Theyâre available on Dekoniâs site here https://dekoniaudio.com/product/dekoni-audio-elite-fenestrated-sheepskin-for-the-koss-95x/
Found them, dammit my $25 off coupon now doesnât work âŠitâs always something
I went from:
- Didnât like them at first
- Two hours in and they were Amazing! So much detail
- Five hours and end of session. Very impressive, especially for jazz. Sounding weak on the rock. Needs a little more bass, a little more high end and a little more body/soul/heart/whatever you want to call it.
Plug in my Loki on a Sunday, EQ like crazy and never look back.
I finally found a good partner for my SMSL SP200 and it is the first time in days that I havenât been wanting to put the E95X back on.
Holy crap! I would just screw things up with that. 4 bands is pretty idiot proof.
Going to try it plain first, but I dug this out of my closet for the occasion when I want to start playing with it. I think the Loki is probably a bit better in terms of noise itâll add to the signal, though. If I like how EQ plays with it, then may consider picking one up.
