šŸ”¶ Koss KPH30i

@ServedHot
I realize what I wrote wasn’t exactly clear.
I didn’t mean that the Koss competes with the 58X, it doesn’t. It has a similar sound signature/tonality, as in warm bass and smooth mids and highs with no frequency peaks. Obviously in terms of technical performance, the 58X is much better. And that does also have to do with limitations of the small on ear design. But it does sound better than the KSC75 and Porta Pro to me, as well as many IEMs costing much more.

Don’t worry I was just saying in general, Ive seen multiple people to compare them with 58x, usually they call them baby 58x, or some would even say I have these these and these headphones and now that I got kph30i I look at all of them and I ask myself why do I have all of this.
I feel like people are overselling them to much.
Good headphones but camon…
K371 were special in bed these… Are just normal.

So I got a replacement pair of 30i’s today, while shuffling on foobar this came up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ClCaPmAA7s
and it may be my new track to show these off to people.
The imaging on the drums is superb and in the heavier sections it doesn’t seem to lose detail in any part of the mix. Speaking of those heavier sections they absolutely thump!

Other opinions much welcome!

Looks sleek, is this a part swap from other colors or a custom paint job?

I’ve also said that I feel like my pair is a lemon, but at the same time nothing seems broken, so I have no clue. I really like the porta pros though.

Grabbed some 2-pin and mmcx adapters but I’m just going to go with fixed cable. Much more durable and they’re not being used for portable use anyway. If you don’t care about the original pads, I highly recommend cutting them off so you can see exactly where the clips are that you need to press. More likely to brake them trying to feel around for it.

The silicone strap was taken from the beige colored KPH30i. The silicone sides I painted, and the pads are black YAXI pads.

@kcrack so there is a way to safely remove the silicone strap! Mind sharing some tips?

I’ve been trying to do it too so I could spray paint and sand my repaired headband cos the epoxy job i did is pretty messy.
Also like to try something like this from Z:

I have no idea how the headband didn’t snap with that middle bend lol?

The silicone strap is held in place with an oval hook. Just unhook it. Zeos used a heat gun to melt his headband.

Could someone link me the video of V modding his pair, please.
Can only find the review in his channel

I don’t think there was a video on it, only mention that he used a heat gun and was extremely careful not break it. The silicone comfort strap is removed and he put dekoni nuggets on the headband.

No worries. Yeah, I’m looking to slightly ease the clamp pressure on mine too. I might just try a hair dryer first and take my time with it.

Mine arrived today - holy crap the cable is shit for desktop use :frowning:
Tried to pawn them off to the gf instead of the porta pros… ended up pawning off the Fidelio X2s…

Now I have to try to get her to like her WH-1000XM3s more :stuck_out_tongue:

Bottom half of the cable is actually not bad, but they shit the bed at the split point.

True its so annoying

:laughing::laughing::laughing: I’m dying

I’ve been experimenting with EQ for the KPH30i, and I think I have a pretty good neutral profile going on:

Preamp: -3.5 dB
Filter: ON LSC Fc 100 Hz Gain 1 dB Q 0.7
Filter: ON PK Fc 150 Hz Gain -3 dB Q 0.5
Filter: ON PK Fc 3200 Hz Gain 2.5 dB Q 2
Filter: ON HSC Fc 10000 Hz Gain 3 dB Q 1

To my ears, the mid bass at 150 Hz is just a bit too boomy, so a -3 reduction really helps with bass and lower mids clarity. Also, the area around 3-4 kHz sounds too recessed if you’re used to something neutral/forward like a 58X or Sundara. Lastly, EQing the treble air above 10kHz really helps if you want more detail.

i also have the KPH30i! I use them with my Chord Mojo outside. Living in germany, i even paid a bit of a premium for them and i have to say - it was worth every penny. It’s so satisfying when you find out that all the hype is just legit. Sure, there will always be people that want more of something about the sound, that will prejudge them for their build/looks etc. but to me, their build, weight and price compared to their performance - that’s just mindblowing. I really like the way they get certain frequencies and details into your ear, also the amount of bass. These things are the GOAT.

Finally got around to re-cabling mine. Didn’t bother with MMCX mod (did that for the PX100 instead), and as they’ll only be used for indoors anyway, this wired cable worked out nicely. Yaxi pad replacement, and fake Sennheiser headband pads too.
A small but worthwhile little change.
