Any significant change in sound when compared to the āultraā mod?
Sounds closer to yaxi or stock than the ultra mod, I actually prefer it that way cause ultra makes them too bright imo, itās more of a comfort mod than a sound one, but I think they do sound a bit less congested.

Do you mind posting more images of your new cushions, and how they attach to your KPH30is?
Iām just confused, because there is foam inside the cushion, but the images for the amazon link show a hollow cushion. Like, is this layered with stock foam, or the Yaxi Pads?
Same as the ultra mod, I have some generic porta pro foams below (cause I ripped the stock pads when trying the yaxis), and couldnāt fit them over the yaxis, but the stock pads should work the same, they donāt even need the cable cut-out tbh but I did it anyway.
(porta foams do seem softer and nicer than the stock ones tho)
I see, thank you. Your discovery might fix my comfort needs too.
It basically makes them over ear for me, Iām pretty pleased tbh
Interesting that no one here has commented on the evolution of the Ultra mod yet.
Dekoni Nuggets on the inside of the Grado pads (go to about the 13 minute mark):
Probably because the nuggets are usually stupidly expensive.
$12 @ Guitar Center, RN. Although backordered currently.
To be fair, thatās still like half the price of a KPH30i, but then again, so are the knockoff Grado pads.
And probably $12 again for shipping.
This channel has some good DIY tutorials.
This recommended repair is āthrow some hot glue on itā lol
I already screwed up my ks75s with a removable cable mod. Still have no idea what happened so thereās no way Iām touching my kph30i.
Was taking a look at a catalog for Frank Oceanās new luxury brand called Homer he announced today, and on one of the pages it had this image:
After doing a double take and inspecting it closer those are KPH30iās!
Regarding the actual functionality of this strange mod, the towels might be ok and perhaps would make it more comfortable, but the tennis balls would ruin the openness of them.
What confuses me though is 1.) what is the point of doing this? (maybe for looks? but to begin with I personally wouldnāt want to be seen in public wearing these lol) and 2.) why is this in a catalog for a brand that focuses on jewelry and clothing to begin with?
Regardless, just wanted to put that in here, to throw out the idea that maybe Zeosā review of these inspired Frank Ocean to buy these amazing bang for your buck cans
My first thought was that they were intended for dogs

I did a thing; should be quite apparent how itās done.
I wouldnāt say itās a mod but rather a life hack?
So what happened is that I recently wish to sell my Yamaha MT5, but I canāt include the Brainwavz pad for hygiene purposes, and I donāt have another headphone that fits the oval pads. The KPH30i is clearly too small for the pads to fit on; it needed something to compensate for the lack of lips attached. So what I did was:
-
Trace two cutouts of the Yamaha MT5 cups using KPH30iās transparent plastic packaging
-
Cut a ring in the middle of both plastic cutouts narrower than the circumference of the yoke
-
Cut open the lower bottom of the plastic film for the cable to pass through
-
Insert the film from the top and over the yoke (like how you hang the āDo Not Disturbā sign on the hotel roomās doorknob)
-
Attach the Brainwavz oval pads
-
Perfection.
Doesnāt really count as a mod since the sound signature didnāt change much, probably a little more bassy? Canāt really tell. But using this setup for calls is definitely better since it guides the voice directly through the pads. I find the Ultra mod dimming the audio and I have a hard time hearing the other end when the headphone is plugged in to the normal phone jack.
Anyway, itās a good way to be able to use conventional oval shape pads on the KPH30i, plus the plastic film is easily accessible with the original packaging. As shown, the lip of the pads are so wide out the cables donāt get caught or bend.
The packaging plastic use is actually genius lol.
Iāve been thinking about just getting regular pads on them too, maybe something slightly smaller than those could actually fit just over the cups, Iām getting small meze pads soon so Iāll probably try those or the stock cal! onesā¦
I didnāt want to spend money on plastic films and no oneās using the box anyways lol. The Brainwavz micro suedes are light enough to float on the films but I donāt know if the plastic from the box will hold up leather pads.
