šŸ”¶ Koss KPH30i

jfc soon weā€™re all going to be guilty of creating abominations in pursuit of good sound.

now this abomination sounds exactly like if the KPH30i and my Focal Clears, my two favourite headphones, made this:

And i fucking love it.

Has anyone tried Yaxi pads on Grados? I know they have those purple ones but apparently they made the hole too big so the slip off all the time.

Yes, I mean after discovering the BLON BL03 and I think those are on the warm side, I wouldnā€™t mind owning a set of headphones like the Koss KPH30is that are on the Warm sound signature spectrum. Sometimes you just need something to put in your head to just chill and relax, for too much brightness and neutral can become mundane. It is good to try some other things.

These mods are awesome haha

so, with all the different pads tried on the KPH30iā€™sā€¦which did the best job?

I think its a flavor thing above everything else, my suggestion?
Buy 3 pairs, One stock and 2 modded, that way you can change to what ever you are feeling that day.

Now I have to try this with my extra clear pro pads

Iā€™mvery tempted to quarter-mod my Yaxis for more trebleā€¦ on this or the Porta Pro.

I like Yaxis because they are relatively low profile, but after messing around with an EQ I really miss having treble extension :sob:

Try the Grado pads before tearing into the Yaxis. Doesnā€™t matter which brand (except for the <$5 ones). If you like the close fit of the Yaxis then try the L Cushions rather than the Gā€™s. I think these are the L cushions anyway.

itā€™s a fun little experiment, nothing more, nothing less. Iā€™m looking forward to your results, i definitely have heard worse.

sometimes there are just people out there who just prefer absolute sound goodness than aesthetics, and I am one of the people for I cannot even the freaking headphones while I am wearing it anyway and I am mostly focused on the music I am listening.

I donā€™t mind turning a KPH30i into a monster, but my Porta Pro goes everywhere. Has anyone measured the diameter of the grado L? It looks slightly larger than Yaxis from what I can tell. Yaxis are around 60mm. Maybe I can try Plantronic Supra pads.
I guess Iā€™ll mod the taxi Yaxis I have once I get a 5 pad set. These are already losing their color, so they should be fine to ruin in a couple of months :^)

Iā€™d also like to try multiple variations of Kramer and see if more or less holes make any difference. I have 4 outer and center only for now.

@Not_Daijoubu I did a ā€œnickel modā€ on yaxis on Portapro. Did regain some treble, bass seems a bit less boomy, and of courseā€¦more comfy.

Huh, thanks for the response.

I do wish I could find well-consolidated documentation on pad mods for Koss like there is for Grados. Everything is scattered on forums.

The Grados are about 0.3 inches wider on the inside than the yaxi pads, but they fit the KPH30i just fine. Theyā€™re only loose on the KSC75. I donā€™t know how wide the actual pad is though, I only have the G cushions which are bigger than Hifiman pads.

Made some pads for my kph30iā€™s perforated leather and sheepskin

@JustaDude Welcome! Love the creativity. Howā€™s the sound?

@TimpTim44 Thank you! The bass has increased, as well as the sound stage has become quite impressive, treble is just below sibilant, but only at high volume. Mids are still pretty boomy so not much improvement there. But thatā€™s probably just the nature of the drivers, they are pretty affordable cans after all. All in all the sound has improved, but more so the comfort.
