Let's talk about computers

I passed on the Framework because I wanted a 17" screen as well as wanting a Ryzen. I ended up getting a Lenovo Legion 5. I’ll probably grab a Surface Laptop Studio when I’m ready to replace my Surface Pro 6…

Speaking of brands that I used to not know crap about but turns out they are not so bad would be Deepcool. Ngl, when I first saw Deepcool I was skeptical for I am used to getting brands that are well-known for most PC builders, until I gave the Assassin 3 a try since a bunch of people told me that it is a very good cpu air cooler for the price, and a good alternative to a Noctua fan.

Turns out they were right and after that I took notice on Deepcool, and they are pretty good to me so far since I bought their TF120S Fan, and man it’s a changer for the temps and more room for my cooler, meaning I can finally close the glass panel. Planning to buy 6 of those for I think I prefer the subtle-lighting route than your typical light show build.

Big fan of Deepcool here!
The red dual tower on my system is the older Assassin II, Deepcool seems to be about as good as Scythe when it comes to cost x benefit, but i think Deepcool finishes their coolers better, they are shinier, with no jagged edges, unlike the Scythes.

Really hope they start selling this model down here, it seems to be pretty good.

Oh, it is the Assassin II, must be rare nowadays to get one since I think they are discontinued. Still a good cooler though, but I think I prefer the Assassin III’s looks even more but that is just me.

Got a pretty sweet deal in this one, it was brand new, sitting on a shelf in the local computer shop, with the AM4 mounting hardware as well, got it for half the price of the Assassin III.
I think i like the cleaner fin design of the 3rd one as well, mine looks a bit too much like an old Thermalright, but they share the wide base with the infamous extra heatpipes that don’t touch the CPU.

I’m fine with my desktop, but it wide be nice to have something portable again. I like the company and wanna give my support, but the current offering just doesn’t quite fit the bill

5600X with Wraith Spire was getting a bit toasty, so I went with something cheap for the time being.

While Arctic is cheap, they are quite good.

Nice you got the Kryonaut as well, might give them a try since I have been using nothing but thermal paste ever since I made my first PC. A good change can be nice, but I just hope those things have the same application as the thermal pastes I have been using.

They make one of the best AIOs available…

It’s quite easy, Thermal Grizzly pastes come with either nozzles or spatulas for spreading.

Arctic is one of the best brands out there and they should not be underestimated tbh. I bought their Arctic MX-4 and my god, the temps I received from those are jsut top-notch cooling despite it being like the Kryonauts. Also their CPU fans are great imo.

If you are already using MX-4, I wouldn’t worry about getting Kryonaut. While I do think Kryonaut is better, and it is what I personally use, you aren’t going to see the kind of differences moving from MX-4 to Kryonaut that you did moving from standard paste to MX-4. I wouldn’t think more than a degree or two C.

Yep, the main advantage in Kyronaut is the consistency of how it performs through a pretty wide range of temps.

Yeah, it’s probably best that way. I mean the MX-4 is a bang for your buck thermal paste and imo, A must have for every PC hobbyists, regardless what grade their PC is.

I use MX-4 in electronics projects to help those TO-220 packages dump their heat better.

Its been a while since ive been on here so hello again all, Nice to see some family faces and some new ones.

I sadly have forsaken you all and made the controversial but I deemed the right decision to get rid of my PC and buy a laptop instead. Yeah yeah I know :frowning:
However not all is bad, gave my pc to my sister as she was wanting one as it couldnt play much anyway having no GPU and it was getting a bit old for my needs I passed it down. The original decision was to just build compleatly anew with new parts after the old one is 6 years old now. However after pricing it up it was looking quite expencive and especially with the gpu crisis… smh.

So after a long decision of debating my plan was to get a cheap laptop to put me on till I could afford an upgrade as I was needing one for uni anyway which is coming up very soon now. (next week  ) However looking around the only laptops I deemed decent enough were around £500 so I summed up it would be cheaper to get a Gaming laptop. Coming from a Desktop only background I wasnt expecting much tbh with you all, but Lenovo had a sale on and it pushed me to make my decision and not gonna lie its been absolutely fucking amazing.

Got it for £1000 with 2 years warrenty as got £200 off from student discount and another £200 from the cashback sale that was going on. This is what ultimately pushed me to it and for the price Im extreamly happy with what I got. Lenovo Legion 5 PRO 5800h and RTX 3060 (albeit it runs more at laptop 3070 specs) with 16gb ram and its just ran everything ive wanted at max settings at 1440p which is exactly what I wanted. But slap it in hybrid mode and you get 8hours runtime which is perfect for UNI. It doesnt look too gamer either which is a nice plus.

The build quality I have found to be superb tho taking the back off to put an 1tb ssd in was a bit of a pain in the arse but to be expected with a laptop I guess. If i had a proper pry tool it probably would of been alot easier haha. Anyway I must say that coming from always hating on laptops this just shows how far they have come and im absolutely loving it. The screen is fucking stunning but expected of the pro model.

Am still wanting to build a PC but honestly this laptop has saved me so much money as I know I couldnt build a similar specced PC for anywhere close to price in this climate so the more money to audio related things which is a nice plus. Its also suprising light to add to say it keeps the 130w powered 3060 way under 70c (overclocked too) at max load. Just wow

Anyway happy to be back been using it a nearly a couple months now and it still surprises me how much power this thing kicks out. Pls no bully for being a laptop pleb hahahaha

New laptop vs my OLD pc couldnt be more pleased it even bloody runs cooler hahaha. Aparently with some better ram itll run even better as well because I heard these kits dont have the best subtimings?
