I’m gonna try and build myself a budget PC when shipping becomes a tad more stable.
Ryzen 3 3300X is pure awesome! overclocked, it’s almost as fast as the 3600X / 2700X on 1080p gaming.
and the 3100, being $80…literally wiped the floor with the Intel i3 and made all their budget CPU’s obsolete.
Yeah. I’ve never built a PC before and I want to learn before I build my editing pc at the end of the year. I’m aiming at the 3300x for the build
if media play back or an app like kodi is all its going to run you could run an Athlon 3000G that’s what I use in my HTPC. You can get them for 50 bucks new. Now if if you need it for trans coding you will need to do a lot of research as most people don’t actually need to trans code, but for those that do it takes a lot of CPU horsepower.
i put my pc in a rack
Today’s the big purchase day but it seems like most motherboards are out of stock. It looks like the https://www.newegg.com/asrock-b450-steel-legend/p/N82E16813157869 was all I needed for 110 which I was happy about but it’s also gone so it’s looking like I may have to wait for things to re-stock in a couple weeks, sigh.
If it makes you feel better, I have been wanting to upgrade my CPU cooler and get a new PSU… Both of which are either out of stock constantly, or overpriced…
Update: I bought the following:
SSD: 970 EVO 1TB
Case: Fractal Meshify C
RAM: G.SKILL 16GB
Fan: Noctua U14S
CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
Motherboard: Gigabyte x570 AORUS Elite Wifi
I have a Seagate 3TB external HDD I bought circa 2013 that may be starting its final days. It has been much more sluggish to wake up and spin, and seems to spin for longer periods of time when not in use. The PC (Win10) still recognizes it and the folders at all times I’ve checked, but it is getting much slower for it to spin up and navigate the files. It is my primary media drive (with backups in at least 2 other places) and my backup for other work files I can’t convince myself I don’t need anymore. I’m thinking I should replace it and transfer everything to the new drive before it fails. What recommendations do you have for quality external storage, at least 3TB, and 150USD or less?
For $150 You can get a 8 tb WD Elements. They have a great reputation in the NAS community because they are equivalent to their more expensive Red drives. Seagate has the worst reputation in general because of their tendency to catastrophically fail when they do fail
I really want to buy a NAS and put two drives in a RAID 1 array…but the solution would still cost me about a grand, and I don’t have a grand.
$300ish for good 2 bay NAS…and then $500+ for one 10TB HDD.
500 for one? You can get two for that price. Also I have an old two bay Nas I can sell you if you want lol
I saw one of those on Amazon and was interested. Thanks for the feedback.
not in Canuckistan…
Damn I forgot about that lol. I don’t think I can help with that
I was due for an upgrade…
Current PC build:
3700x, b450 pro carbon ac, rtx 2060 ko ultra, 1tb m.2, 16gb ddr4-3200
Previous:
2011 MBP 13"
Next generation AMD is due end of this year and Intel’s launching soon. You may want to wait a bit to see their new offerings.
What I meant was… I was due for an upgrade from the 2011 mbp. The current pc build has been a few months now.
Ah ok, sorry I misunderstood. How do you like the new build?
