Let's talk about computers

I mean, mine is reinforced, but there is still sag, so I have a gpu brace anyways for peace of mind.

Sadly, youll get that with just about anything mid-range and up.

sag is a problem mainly due to the gpu buld and weight and less on the slot. unfortunately these thick fin stacks just arent rigid enough to support its own weight . my blower style card has not sag though thankfully.

Looks good.

Two minor points:

  • For Workstation-ish settings, maybe look at the Asus Pro WS X570-Ace or ASRock X570 Creator. The ASRock board has the advantage of having 10Gbit networking.

  • I never heared that brand for SSDs. I can vouch for Samsung, WD and Crucial though (and for mostly read workloads, Intel 660p Series would also work).

also better vrms from what it looks like.

but I prefer msi boards as they have proven their reliability to me as well as asus in respect to AMD and also aesthically the best for the 3

Would there be that much of a benefit of going with the workstation boards over a more standard consumer board? I understand the benifits of having faster networking, however that equipment starts to add up.

Going off VRM analysys and review, the MSI board I linked has fairly top tier VRMs

Oh sorry I was comparing the ASRock board to the Asus board I actually didn’t know about the msi board prior to that comment being made

I’m shocked at how much the B550 mobo’s are going to cost. we have a bunch of listings (no stock) on our site and they’re all in surplus of $200 CAD…even the Asus CSM board is $100 more than the B450 model!

Wow… $145+ USD for B550?

Canadian dollar is stupid weak right now also pcie tech really driving prices up. As well as inporting and pricing probably killing prices it will probably stabalise at a lower price

I hope that the pricing isn’t accurate, since there is no stock available and someone just punched numbers in…but it’s hard to swallow a $100 price increase on a basic mobo like the Asus CSM series. the B450M was $115…the B550M is $212.

I was thinking about going for a Ryzen 4000 APU, but if the Zen3 IPC increase is what it’s being said to be, I suspect I will just buy Zen3 and pop in an inexpensive GPU.

there is a real lack of sub 75w GPU’s right now. <_<

I personally dont have any complaints about that unless you are throwing one into a prebuilt.

Mostly networking and more stable VRM.
If the dual NICs (or 10 Gbit) is worth it for you obviously depends on your network situation.

Yup, MSI is not going to repeat their mistakes from X370.

I am not. PCIe Gen4 has very strict specs on signal integrity making the PCB itself and the repeater chips much more expensive.

Not sure what everyone was expecting…

WELLL… The (lower tier) initial boards they launched with X570 had pretty craptastic VRMs…
I am simply planning to have two PCs(and possibly a laptop) and a phone. One PC will be the workstation in the home office, the other would be the HTPC (not too worried about having slower internet on that one, so I’m more open to WiFi there). When I start worrying about getting a little more hard core with my networking is when I get around to buying/building a house. If I can build, I’ll do that and just run all my own networking… However, that is YEARS into the future.

I was more hoping then expecting.

I know that feeling.
