Let's talk about computers

Could you post a picture or two so we know what it looks like? That would help in being able to give detailed advice. For general advice, zip-ties are your best friend.

Yes zip-ties are a necessity, but I want something that I can use again meaning I don’t have to cut off zip-ties just to reconfigure a cable again. I wonder if a Velcro strap can be a good alternative to it. Also give me time, I will post an image once I am free. I am no cable management maestro so, prepare to cringe.

Yes, velcro straps are fine for cable management as well. There are also the unlockable zip ties if you want to maintain their smaller size.

I will keep that in mind, might worth it to look into it. Thanks for the suggestion

There’s these.

Or these, which are a lot cheaper and you get a bunch more.

Already ordered my share of reusable zip-ties, so I am good now.

To be fair, if you are not using a modular PSU and customized cables for as much as you can a lot of times cable management even with zip ties does kinda end up like this in the back or basement or wherever you kinda have to stuff all the excess.

But the problem for myself is that, I am using a modular PSU, and what makes it bad is that it’s an ATX-sized one meaning I don’t have a lot of clearing space for the cables to tucked inside for my case is not exactly a full-tower, for it’s more like a MATX case. I think I should have gotten an SFX PSU back then, it would have been easier and less of a hassle to manage it as I can.

Also the stock cables from the current PSU that I have, sucks so bad like thick and stiff, You know those flat cables from Gigabyte? Yeah they are that, a pain in the ass tbh, hell I had easier time managing the cable of my old bronze Seasonic PSU, and that one’s freaking non-modular lol.

What case do you have?

a budget airflow-focused case, the Lian Li Lancool 215X. I could have went to a more expensive case or at least a case that is known for better cable management, but I was short on cash and I wanted to give the Silverstone FARA-B1 case that I used to own to my little brother back then since his previous case was a crappy one from Armaggeddon.

Yeah there aren’t great cable management channels in that case but it’s doable. Since you have stiff cables zip ties will really be your friend compared to reusable ties. You will have to take time and run cables neatly on those mounting points. As an example my last cable management I did took 2 hours straightening and bending cables where I wanted them to be.

Yeah it requires effort, patience and the willing to learn how-to. I mean despite it being a budget case, it’s still a good case for the temps I get from it are one of the best, for I got lower temperatures therefore making my worries of overheating relaxed. I think it’s also cool when you got a beefy CPU Air cooler, it’s not a Noctua but I am using Deepcool’s Assassin 3, cheaper but still a beast to use.

Anyway I ordered a lot of reusable zip-ties online and when I have the time I will do some adjustments here and there. Also, I will show the back of my case when I am free.

Sometimes calling out companies on their shenanigans leads to them fixing things!
To be fair to Patriot though, that was supposedly just a typo, which I’m willing to believe.

How’s Patriot btw? because when I first saw them I usually don’t trust them like I don’t know it’s like, it’ something that it just gives you that bad feeling.

I’ve never used any myself, but I’ve never heard any real complaints. Buildzoid rec’s them pretty regularly for cost-effective high-speed kits. An they aren’t a no-name knockoff brand that no-one’s ever heard of. They’ve been selling RAM kits for a number of years. I wouldn’t have any issues pointing someone in their direction.

Hmmmm, might give them a look but as of now I am fine since I already have a G Skill RAM kit since the TForce kit I had broke due to my stupidity. (replacing its stock heat-sink with a Hyper X heat-sink not knowing I might have damaged the chips that is sticking to the adhesive of its heat-sink.)

Yeah, you’ve got to be careful when removing the heat-sink from RAM modules. They can be stuck on really well a lot of the time. And then again sometimes you can get them to come of without even realizing it. Which happened to me on one my 4000 c15 sticks. I about freaked out thinking I had damaged one of the two sticks that I had just spent ~$200 on, lol. Luckily it was fine.

But I saw your post on the ‘what did you buy today’ thread. And honestly, if I were you, I just get another kit of the G-Skill and have 32GB instead of looking for something else. You’ll probably see more improvement from doing that so you will be running in dual rank than you would from moving to a faster 2x8 kit.

I was planning to, but I was short on cash so I have to settle with it or else I don’t have a PC to use. In time I will get a 32GB ram kit, so that the usage of my PC can be much faster and more beautiful to behold.

Let’s start by saying that I am not sure if this goes in the computer thread or the rant thread! But here goes…

Fucking Micro$oft did it again! Windows 10 decided to just do an update, whether I wanted it to or not. And now Edge browser has died. When I try to launch it gives the impression it’s gonna launch and then the the little spinning thing stops spinning and… NO BROWSER! :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

I have tried rebooting and nothing. Thankfully Firefox is working fine. I haven’t tried re-installing Edge yet but I will at some point. 50/50 as to whether that will work. Windows 10 killed a browser in another laptop I had and I never did get it to work again. I assumed the OS was polluted and ended up chucking that laptop. For this one, I think! Damn you, M$.

I am SERIOUSLY considering trying a Linux desktop next time around. I’m just not sure how well Linux does audio. Oh well, Firefox is doing well so I guess I’ll roll with this for a while. To be honest, Firefox is a lot faster than Edge ever was. Hmmm…

Anyway, I’m done! I guess this was a rant after all.

Never encountered that before. Then again, I’m one of those people that only ever uses Edge to download my browser of choice. Then I proceed to remove every shortcut/link to Edge there is so I can pretend it doesn’t exist, lol.
