Cant put a regular filter on it yourself?

I’ve tried, there is no lip for the filter to catch onto so the ones I have don’t stay on properly and I just don’t want to use a stronger glue in case I screw it up. I don’t have the most steady hands in the world, so dealing with tweezers and small filters is tough for me.

aa yeah then the other methods are also kinda risky/one-way tickets.
in that case that ostry tip will do fine, that one was actually popular like 4 years ago or so. Havent seen anyone mention it in a loooong while though.
iirc, the OS100 is the one with the least dense filter (= least amount of damping/change). So I would probably get that one and then just buy some separate filters and put them on them if you want more damping later. Not sure what the size is but you probably want those 3mm filters.
oh and for the record, I believe those comply foam tips also have an inbuilt filter/foam for protection.

iirc, I believe the consensus back then was that those tips are just average tips with filters built in, so not as good as the spinfits (the one and only tip people raved about back then pretty much).

Finally got the S&S tips that are the right size, they are smaller than usual so needed to get L (normally I wear M). Man what great tips they are! Also easily better and more forgiving than XLASTECS imo.

Ok, this is probably one of the best ear tips that I have ever got this year, and at first it was weird when I tried them on first because they are for real smooth in ears. These Divinus ear tips are a surprise to me, just like when I first got the Dunu S&S tips back then. I thought these were gonna slip off of my ears but no, somehow they stuck in and didn’t loosen, but removing it from ears it’s like instant. I am like WTF.

Tip rolling is simply amazing. I had fit issues with my Cadenza4.
After a lot of tip rolling I came to the conclusion that the nozzle was too long so I started to search for short eartips.
I found the Whizzer SS20 which ended up flush with the nozzle. They worked for comfort however sound wise they made Cadenza4’s mid range even more intense and the highs a bit too sharp.
On a whim, I ordered NF Audio MS42 and it turns out they are a similar shape but with a narrower bore. The bass is more punchy, the mids are a bit more calm but the soundstage is a bit diminished in size (but still very spacious).
The surface of these tips is very soft but the construction is stiff enough that it doesn’t buckle in my ears (unlike Fiio HS18).
Updated top tear tips:
- Neutral with good bass: Audiosense S400 (long), NF Audio MS42 (short)
- Mid-bass emphasis: ddHifi ST35 (Final E honorable mention)
- V shaped: Spinfit W1
- Forward midrange and clarity: Whizzer Easytips SS20, Tri Clarion, TRN T

I tend to have issues with my right ear if the IEM is a deeper insertion so I’m looking into shorter tips these days. Honestly comfort is the biggest thing for me when it comes to tips because it doesn’t matter how it sounds if I’m having discomfort that ends up being all I think about when I’m wearing them.
Right now I am using Final E’s on my Explorer and I just use a larger size and push them up as far as I can on the nozzle. That gives me a comfy shallower fit. I am looking to try an alternative set with similar comfort but with a wider bore.
Spiral Dot++ may be a hit for you, they’re my preferred tip for Explorer (both comfort-wise and I feel like they balance the sound out a little bit).

There are two way to achieve shallower fit.
- Use a large size tip
- Use a shorter tip. With wide bore I rec the Whizzer SS20. For narrower bore it would be NF Audio MS42.
The alternative to Final E for me is the ddHifi ST35. I find it more comfortable because final tips tend to make my ear canals itch after a while.
Other tips that are comfy and grippy are TRN T tips.

I had spiral dots way back when I tried the FDX1. They were super comfy, but I remember them not having much rigidity on the bore. Is there any issue with them slipping off the Explorer since it doesn’t have a lip to hold the eartips?

The ++ have a different style of stem from the OG Spiral Dots: see pics for reference (++ is MS, OG is M sorry but those are the only sizes I have on hand at work). I find the ++ to overall be more stable on nozzles and comfortable compared to the OGs.
Super helpful, thanks! No variety pack on sizes with the Spiral Dots unfortunately. I use this size in the Final E set, pushed way up on the nozzle to get a more shallow fit. Wonder if that makes me the ML in Spiral Dots. (2nd largest size)

There should be measurements for stem and dome out there on the internets, but IIRC the Spirals of all types run a little wider than the Final Type-Es, so you may want either ML or M for the Spiral++ if you go that route.
