That’s a real risky move lol, do it for the people
I was talking with one of my buddies and he has a HD660 and Schitt Fulla. I’m gonna see if I can borrow it for testing wish me luck!
I wish you luck
Ok so now I have everything together. Asgard 3(with AKM dac), Xduoo xd 05plus, DT880 600ohm, DT1990 250ohm, HD660S 150ohm the testing begins.
Sounds like fun to me. Enjoy.
Sounds sweet
Wow u really went all out to test them lol. Looking forward to your opinions on them
Hahaha yeah I’ve already started and I can already say for sure there’s some pros and cons.
Curious to see your thoughts on them
Damn dude starting off like a champ
Dang seeing you again just reminded me I should have also gotten a pair of dt990s while I was at it
I’ve found out that the DAC on the asgard 3 only works when the module selector switch is switched on to DAC/Phono mode so USB. Meaning it loses out to the xduoo for me since the xduoo can still connect to my goxlr via it’s aux out and have the same quality. I will say though the quality of the asgard is top notch and super smooth.
On the Asgard 3 the DT880s sound slightly clearer with some included bass which I thought was super interesting because on the xd 05 plus the bass boost doesn’t compare. Gaming with them was weird since the new bass made things like bullets or explosions more cinematic/heavier especially louder. I didn’t really appreciate that as with the xduoo I had a choice if I wanted it or not.
I wanted to skip to the HD660s since I figured it would be a completely different sound. That and it had taken me a week or two of use to get used to the 880s so if the dt1990s aren’t around the same that would be a surprise. I tried them on the xduoo first and the sound was completely different. I can’t put my finger on it but it’s like the HD660s are wider but not as accurate as the 880s at least when I was gaming in them. When I listened to music it was a different story especially anything with singing. Not sure but it does a better job of separating words from everything else. I don’t know if i’m just weird or something because I figured they’d blow the 880s out of the water in every aspect. On the Asgard 3 the bass returns but I can’t put my finger on what’s really missing in there. There’s more added in but i’m not sure if that’s just because I’ve got them hooked up to schitt or the headphones doing something. I guess I just really liked what I heard coming from the dt880s.
DT1990s are like 2-3 times better in clarity and range than the dt880s/HD660s like a massive step up. I’m pretty sure I can pick things up much better with them than the 880s especially in games it’s like I could hear people breathe let alone footsteps. I noticed that it’s extremely sharp on anything that has a sss sound. Like suuuuuper sharp aside from that they’re great. I also tested it with just regular youtube songs and boy was that interesting. Songs I listened to before even with the 880s were really weird. It’s like I was picking up more from the background don’t know what it’s called. Like imagine the regular song is playing then in the back there’s like a sound that just plays over and over. I’m sure it’s not supposed to pick that sound and make it like super obvious that it’s there. Oh yeah the pads are interchangeable with a balanced set and analytical set. Balanced has a buncha holes and the Analytical has way less. I figured more would be better but the analytical are so much better honestly. I’m not sure how it’s done but they kind of cut the bass a bit on the asgard 3 which helps when gaming. I might keep these but I’d probably have to train myself to not squirm when that ssss sound happens.
What you were discribing on the 1990 is I believe to be micro details. And the persuit of this is a big part of high end audiophelia
You are 100% correct , even though the 1990 isn’t my cup of tea, it has amazing abilities to showcase micro detail.
I used to game with the 990, now I use the dt1990. It is rare that an enemy can get close to me without hearing them. Even when they crouch or hide in the bushes, I can hear every little sound and pinpoint the location. The only problem for me was the comfort. Until I did a hulk with the headband, now I can have them on for hours.
I’m wondering if there’s anything with the same quality but with a dac that still works when using analog output. Can this be done with a stack like separate units? If I can still do it dac+amp combo that’d be nice. One good thing out of all this though is experiencing the quality out of that Asgard.
Lou Ferrigno at his best, I loved it when I was kid!
