I just stumbled on a high end IEM thread in disguise. Are you guys hiding or something? lol
New Sarda owner here and I’m having a jolly good time. Reading up here because I think I’ve found my endgame “fun” IEM. Now wondering if I want to get a more neutral or midrange focused IEM to complement it. Not ready to spend on the same level as the Sarda yet, but possibly considering the Dunu SA6 to try out in the near future.
I am glad to hear that you are enjoying it. How would you compare something good like Sarda with something entry level? Do you notice a large jump in technicalities? Was it worth it?
Haven’t gone back and listened to my entry level stuff again since I got them but I have a feeling I’ve now been spoiled. I was doing some A/B comparisons to the Dunu Zen today for the first time (which is a long way from what I would call entry level). I wanted to give myself plenty of time to acclimate first before I switched. The things I noticed immediately were the differences in subtle texture and detail and the way they so precisely stage instruments with clear separation. All that plus they punch and rumble like nothing else I’ve ever heard, so there is that. So yeah, I’m going to say it was worth it. Would like to see how they scale with better sources but I’m probably going to stick it out with the Mojo for a little while.
Protected 2-pin and not qdc? I thiught they were litteraly who the connector is named after…
Edit: since we are talking iems, anything that would compete with diana v2 (on a gsx-mini) out of p6p? Vx have pretyy similar levels of detail, but the layering, stage dynamics, timbre, and tonal density fall pretty short. Any complete package iems if you aren’t too picky on pricing?
Protected 2 pin is QDC, but he’s just saying you can use a regular 2 pin connector as well. I personally haven’t heard an IEM that can compete with the Diana (I run on XI Broadway). The closest I have for technicalities is the Trinity SS, but it’s so hard comparing IEMs to full sized cans.
Ordered a P6 Pro on sale from MusicTeck and have had it for almost 2 weeks now. Coming from a Questyle QPM, the difference in audio quality is pretty remarkable.
Pretty spacious, great layering of instruments, really natural sounding, wonderful impact, and demands your attention, almost impossible to zone out listening to it.
Even though I enjoyed my headphones on the QPM, it was never close to my desktop setup in performance, but with the P6Pro I feel like it honestly could be part of a desktop setup I’d be perfectly happy with, and as such it’s really hard to see myself moving away from this as part of my portable setup. It definitely has more power on tap for full-size headphones and at least with the ones I have, has good synergy with.
Some general thoughts:
Feels lighter in hand than you’d expect.
The wood backside of the dap is awesome, but realistically how often will you see the back of it?
The provided USB-A to USB-C cable has a springy metal sleeve on it and feels great.
Comes with a case that is actually really nice, easy to take on and off, with a nice feeling texture, and the blue-green color is aesthetically pleasing.
UI is very, very simple.
The volume level seems to almost be logarithmic with how the volume increases with each step.
There are options to change gain from low to high, switch usb connection from storage to usb dac/amp, and switch from self power to usb power.
Benifits from quite a few hours of burn in, I didn’t time it, but it was quite lengthy. Also sounds best after it’s warmed up a bit.
I love it ;_;
Some caveats to consider:
The screen seems apt to burn-in, try to have it on lowest brightness and have the screen auto-off on a short timer. In the case of usb connection you can turn the screen off with a tap of the power button.
There is no gapless playback as a dap, so an album that has tracks flow together will have short gaps of silence between tracks that ideally shouldn’t be there. I hope this gets fixed in a firmware update at some point as this is realistically the only issue that annoys me. This is offset by just how good it sounds, since this would normally be a dealbreaker for me. It is also not an issue whatsoever under USB DAC mode. In that case you can consider its playback gapless.
EQ can be considered nonexistant. There are presets, but they are unalterable and you can not add your own. I don’t use EQ at all, but I’m mentioning this because some do.
USB DAC mode is limited to 16bit 96kHz, so hi res tracks will need to be dithered from 24bit to 16bit and or have 192kHz+ resampled down to 96kHz. Since the P6 Pro sounds so damn good though and sounds better than what I had previously by a stupid amount, I consider this a non-issue, but again, maybe this too can be fixed in a future firmware update.
Confusingly, folders on the dap are sorted by the date in which they were created instead of alphabetically like you’d expect. This has to do with the FAT disk format and can be sorted out in a few seconds with software like DriveSort.
scan libraray should 1,000% not be on the main screen. I click it by accident at least 3 times a week and it takes dozens of minutes to complete
volume adjust should work better while using it for USB audio (
but yah, p6p is dope as hell. I do find it a bit interesting you call it spacious though (I find it fairly narrow but with extremely good dynamism to its stage making up for it in most cases)
also, @M0N, idk if its dap synergy (will find out in a few week when more interconnects arrive), but mass kobo 428 out of p6p is better on litteraly every single can I have put it on than GSX-mini. Mini is less fatuging, but the timbre and detail of the 428 are kinda mind blowing. For anyone considering a higher end portable setup, mass kobo 428/424 with a p6p give a massive range of options and even run arya and diana quite plesently.
In my experience the p6p brought out a lot more sense of space in a lot of the recordings I’ve listened to, even for ones that are so lo-fi you’d think there wouldn’t be much improvement.
Still enjoy listening to this dap a lot. I’m still interested in getting a new pair of iems but I haven’t stressed it too much because I haven’t focused on discovering new music lately and I’m just listening to whatever music I have already instead lol.
I think I’m gonna end up picking myself up a P6 Pro soon to replace my desktop and portable stuff. Does anyone use theirs as a desktop dac with more than one source? I currently use my bf2 through usb for meetings, and coax for music via my rpi streamer. I was thinking maybe do something like have a bta30 for my laptop to output Bluetooth to the P6P and usb to my rpi?
You’re wanting to send both at once and switch depending on which you need? I do use mine as my main DAC, but I’ve never tried doing that. I don’t know that it’s really a quick switch to go between Bluetooth and SPDIF. Could a USB switch possibly work, where you just push a button to switch sources?
I’ve used mine to completely replace my desktop setup as well. It was a nice upgrade for both of my amp and dac, but also had a nicer footprint (and it’s portable!)
Yeah I’ve been wanting to do it for a while, and now that I know that I prefer IEMs most of the time, I might as well go for what I’d be happiest with performance wise if I can afford it unfortunately means selling the HeK though
It was a hard decision, but I sold mine. You’ll have to reflect for a while if you’re going hp or iem. Ofc, you can still do both, but I focused a bit more on iems. Now, I don’t even use headphones anymore. I prefer the comfort of IEMs.
HEK was superb, but you’ll need to feed it a ton of electronics to get the most out of it. I actually enjoyed Utopia on it P6P more.
