Metal music thread & IEM for it

Here’s another vote for the 7Hz Salnotes Zero:2. I could also recommend the Tanchjim One. Both of these IEMs have a mid-range tuning that makes them well-suited for metal music without sounding harsh. However, the Tanchjim One has less bass. For metal, I prefer both of these over the Moondrop Chu 2. Additionally, the Moondrop Chu 2 and Tanchjim One have versions with DSP, allowing you to switch between different profiles for various music genres. If you’re planning to use it only with the analog 3.5mm connection, the 7Hz Salnotes Zero:2 is probably the best option based on the IEMs I’ve tried.

If you’re still wondering what to listen to metal with when you drink your morning coffee. Absolutely stunning combination with my Dragonfly Cobalt. Riku is a genius. :metal: :1st_place_medal: :purple_heart:  :ok_hand: :fire:

How does Binary Dynaquattro fit into this list?

I was going to ask the same thing. Hope it isn’t too pricey.

besides wanting to know the consensus/opinion on the dynaquattro regarding Metal. Curious to see what my metalheads think between these two somewhat budget options.

Explorer and the new S08.

It ranks high on that list for me. I would place it between the 61T and the Studio 4. The mid-range is strikingly similar to that of the Softears Studio 4 and Volume, vocal-forward and detailed, making instruments like electric guitars sound fantastic. Bass guitars and double bass drum solos also sound excellent. I’ll be listening more over the weekend.

I’ve read two reviews about the S08, and everyone agrees that it’s a great IEM, but they describe it as slightly warm-sounding and not as technical as the Letshuoer Z12. It has moderate power requirements. Both the Explorer and the S08 have a treble roll-off, as you can see from the graph. I love my Z12 with Final Type E tips, it’s one of those IEMs I’ll never let go of.

Wouldn’t the explorer fall under the same premise…as in that it would not be as technical as the z12? I was curious about the S08 since you ranked the explorer as a great item for metal.

both are bottom of the barrel for metal if im being honest, both would sound way too mushy and warm for metal not to mention that weird lower midrange shout and early gain on the s08 that really doesn’t make any sense what so ever and will put a nasty shhhhhhhhhhh filter on the instrument if you bring the bass down. you need fast and punchy bass that these 2 lack due to the bass boost and upper region recession, also that recession in upper regions would kill any sense of imaging inside the head and make guitars or all the instruments recessed. if you have any iem on your hand tell me the name and ill send you some good eq profiles no need to buy anything new.

Yes. Sovran is right. For metal IEM should not be too warm and soft

these warm sounding iems would only work on older songs, pre 2000 era and specially the cd rips when the songs had no bass and the treble was boosted to the point of going deaf. but even you can make better warm tuning without some anomalies in upper midrange or lower treble.

listening to the cymbals on this song is torture on flat headphones or speakers.

or this, the production sounds like utter shit.

Hmmm curious what you would recommend for someone just starting in the hobby in different price ranges.

Right now I currently just own the s12 and ME600.

for older thin harsh songs this works well, but they are very few songs or albums that sound that thin.

its very hard to eq these high q peaks and dips.

no worries. I think they sound great as is so will just try the s12 eq just to see what you mean. Graphs are kinda funny tho because with this set it has no harshness. The s12 on the other hand can be a lil harsh.

s12 looks bright, and bright sounding iems are dangerous depending on the ear canal shapes. they can either sound harsh and sibilant or slightly bright and more clear. there is ALOT of bass boost though that will mask a big portion of the brightness. m600 looks warm on the graph.
