I think thatâs pretty much the consensus. The Argons are really good for the price, but they canât compete with higher-end cans. They have been a little over-hyped by reviewers. Though, like I said, for the price, they are hard to beat.
I think its the fact that they have a more unique sound signature compared to other offerings in the bracket, which excites reviewers or long time enthusiasts since just above average performance gets boring if you have to hear different similar cans constantly, so it seems overhyped to the average person
Itâs really not that unique. Modded m1060s and m1060Cs sound awfully similar. ThieAudio Phantom is similar.
I think most people are impressed at just how different they sound than normal T50s. Itâs a hell of a mod, but when you hear people comparing it to $700+ headphones, you know they have lost their minds.
I wouldnât say its similar to modded m1060âs (although have not heard modded câs). The hype did take off before the phantoms existed, so that is something to take note of. It is a different fun sound, but I would also agree that some of the comparisons that are being made I would take with a grain of salt lol

Wow, you guys are smart!
Hi,
I bought mine on May 14 and waited patiently for 9 weeks, at approximately 9 weeks I received the mail of my order had been sent.
I sent an email to know the tracking number, They answered me and I could do the tracking, but my surprise is that instead of sending them to Mexico they sent them to some part of Germany, I sent them an email again to know if the Guide number was correct because I had encountered that problem and they told me that they were going to investigate.
It has been more than 12 days of which I have not received a response from them and I have sent them 2 emails and I remain unanswered by them.
I have almost lost my money, because if modhouse does not answer the emails, the less they will want to make a refund or something similar.
About the shipment, it was the one proposed by the same page since it does not have several international shipping options such as ups or fedex.
Sorry for my bad writing in English.

I have already received a mail from modhouse, they tell me that the problem with my headphones was due to an usps error, since their system cuts the address when it is large, so I cut the destination country.
So they already offered me to resend them to another shorter address or return the money. Obviously I have chosen to send them again.
oof, what a record. Definitely gonna blast some funky smooth soul when the argons arrive.
Hi Ernesto!
Welcome to the forum! Your English is fine!
I would maintain contact with them and Iâm sure they will try to make everything right. My impression of Modhouse is that they are poor communicators, very busy, and not out to take advantage of anyone.
Please keep us updated!
Iâm sorry if someone has already answered this question but I couldnât find it. (Probably because itâs a silly question) but I was looking at buying these and Iâm a wee bit confused as to what the difference is between the stock cable and the balanced for 30 more bucks. They say they change the inside of the headphones themselves so does that mean if I bought a third party cable I couldnât use it with these? Also is it an xlr ended cable or a balanced 3.5? 2.5? I are confuse. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Not necessarily a silly question.
They re-wire the headphone to utilize balanced connection. So you can use it as unbalanced or a balanced cable and amp.
Any comptable unbalanced cable will work fine for unbalanced use. If you want to use it with a balanced connection you need to use a balanced cable (XLR is the most common connection). Without the balanced mod, the balanced connection option isnât there.
You could also always opt for balanced xlr and get an adapter to take xlr down to 3.5 mm or 1/4 inch unbalanced so you can use one cable for both balanced and unbalanced
Oh ok thank you. So if I have a smsl stack (su-8, sh-8) Iâm pretty much dumb if I donât opt for the balanced add on.
Well, you would just be missing out on the best from your amp
Hey, just wanted to unlurk to say thanks for the vibrant discussion on the Argons, even though the more realistic commentary has started just as Iâm rounding into week 9 or so of my wait for the Argon T60RP⌠Oh, well!
Iâm running a Mayflower ARC and have been concerned I basically need to be on high gain / dial nearly all the way full to truly enjoy my X2s. As impedance goes up and wattage goes down, it doesnât necessarily mean the volume will be linearly lower, right? In other words, if my amp drives roughly 1w @ 32 ohm (X2), and 500mW @ 50 ohm (upcoming Argons), that doesnât mean itâll be half as loud at its maximum, right?
Has anyone tried argonâs on an amp with 5-8 wpc at 50 ohm? Id love to know if itâs worth going in for a basx (it would give me an excuse to buy some passive bookshelves for once, even though i love my adam t5vâs) if it changed the sound signature enough, and to a benefit. I know many people have claimed that the basx specifically (bridged ofc) can bring out alot of good qualities in headphones. Ive even heard people claim 58xâs and hd 600âs almost magically have bass and soundstage but hey, maybe im being to skeptical.
Iâve tried the argons in something that puts out 5wpc pure class a into 50 ohm, and they do take well to lots of power. I have also heard it on the basx, and that does really help it reach their maximum. Regarding the 600 or 58x claim, that doesnât happen with my amps, as the 58x really isnât that picky about amps and really doesnât need that much power. The 600 does get better with a better amp, but I wouldnât say it vastly increases the soundstage unless you have it on an otl tube amp. Also the 58x already has plenty of bass imo when you compare it to the 600. Bass response does get a bit better on the 600 with more power
Without getting too complicated, double power is only around 20% louder to the human ear and yes when impedance goes higher wattage drops, but you also have to take into account that the argons can be harder to drive to get their maximum vs the x2âs which donât really care about their amp as much. The headphone impedance and sensitivity play a role in determining volume and drivability, but more power to the argons also improves the headphone overall, and while you might be able to get loud enough on a specific amp, it might not sound as good as something that is able to provide more power, because volume isnât everything. To get to very loud volumes with the argonâs (theoretically) you would want at least 3.16 Vrms of voltage and 63.2 mA of current which is around 199.71 mW, but this doesnât mean it will sound itâs best at this lower power. Lower impedance headphones like the argons benefit from more current, so adding more current will improve the experience. For example the emotiva basx a100 can output 425 mA of current at 47 ohms and around 8.5 watts with the jumpers removed. This will really benefit the agrons
So I would say that you would probably be under powering the argons, but I would just wait until you get them to see if thatâs true. I have not used the argons with a mayflower amp, so I donât know for sure.
I appreciate it! With Mayflower having their own T50RP mod itâs my hope their source gear plays well with it, given the size and convenience of the headphone & mic jacks, but Iâm deathly afraid of being disappointed in the Argon when it finally arrives due to underpowering itâŚ
Tfw itâs arrived but you gotta wait another two hours because rural mail
The wait is now killing me
Tfw itâs been 13 weeks and I havenât gotten a shipping notification nor a response to my ETA email.
I feel, uhh, concerned.
