Went with a completely different version haha

Deciding between the Lambskin or Protein was a tough call though.

got mine two days ago. love them! balanced deer skin and protein pads. they are so much damn fun and the comfort is insane. these have a spot on my desk next to my 1990 pro and 800s now.

edit: i know people will ask so… i ordered at the 9 week out point, got them in 11, and had two different emails answered within 24 hours of sending.

Decided on going balanced since i am not a fan of the interlocking plug on the headphones. Also, now i can use both balanced and unbalanced. I do only have the iFi Micro BL but might find a balanced AMP/DAC in the future.

Now the wait begins. Late April is my expectation.

Are there adapters you can buy to hook up balanced to the regular 1/4 inch out on the ifi?

You can get a balanced to unbalanced adapter no problem, but it’s not balanced so you can’t run it in balanced (but it doesn’t matter too much tbh)

Tbh i got the balanced mod to replace the interlocking design. The balanced upgrade is a plus.

I’d say the balance upgrade is a must, even if you don’t get the cable, just makes it all around easier to use different cables. I got the SP-200 amp, so there are no real power benefits to the XLR vs 1/4" (with the minor, minor noise floor improvements that I generally can’t hear), still use the XLR most of the time.

how much isolation and noise leak do these have vs a true closed back

Decent in both regards, but cranking them will have them leak a bit (but not a significant amount imo)

Thanks still trying to work out what I want to do for close backs. Something that can isolate the TV in the office and not leak and make more noise, other wise they turn the TV up…lol

and I wanted so Argon, Not to fond of the possible wait time though. I’m still debating on the Aeon 2 closed and Eleiga as well

Those are more expensive, but I would def prefer them to the argons unless you want a bass focused sound

Just a question I can’t find an answer to anywhere else… does anyone know WHICH ZMF Eikon pads are included in the Eikon pad selection on the Argon website? Because it doesn’t specify but on the ZMF eikon pad page there’s lambskin, perforated lambskin, suede, perforated suede, protein and a hybrid lambskin suede. Wondering which ones they use for the Argon modded mk3s? I saw a FR graph on DMS’ Argon mk3 video review and it looked like the Eikons or the lambskin are what I’m looking for FR-wise… just wondering before I order mine which Eikon ones they’re using though? I’m not a big suede pad fan that’s only why I ask

I think he uses all of them. When you purchase the argons theres a little window where you can include comments. i think you can type in there what you want. or email him and ask. or just do the mod without pads and buy them yourself and install them yourself

I don’t know which are used, but I would take a guess that:
perforated for open back
non-perforated for closed back (like the argons here)

okay thanks for the info, ended up going with lambskin and figured I’d get the Eikons or other pads seperate down the line when my order is closer to being ready. Thanks for the quick replies tho guys!

Hi everyone, I am new here! Apologies in advance for any faux pas I may commit…

I recently ordered a pair of Modhouse Argon MkIII’s after much deliberation. The biggest concern I have is about bass and was hoping to get some reassurances

I spend most of my time listening to music on my Sony WH-1000XM3’s at work and to my ears they sound really nice, with bass that is just right for me, but I wanted something nicer for home listening. It would mean a lot to me for someone with both pairs of headphones tell me how the two compare?

Currently at home I am using Audio Technica ATH-A990Z. I bought them about a year ago as an upgrade to my ATH-AD700’s, thinking they would bring a bit more bass to the table, but it wasn’t quite what I was hoping for – they still sound a bit bright and tinny for my liking. I then went on a bit of a silly tangent and bought a pair of NOS JVC HA-SZ2000’s and they have hilarious bass but they’re really just a bit of a gimmick if I’m honest, so the Argons are my attempt to find something respected that I can use as a daily driver.

Never heard the xm3 but im pretty sure the argons are gonna suit your preference. Argons very powerful, deep bass works really well with bassy genres like hip hop, edm, etc. Assuming that you have a powerful enough amp to drive them.

Thanks @JJPablo
From what I’ve read and seen, I don’t think my current amp (Magni 3) is up to the task. I’ve been eyeing the SMSL SP200 or the Massdrop THX 789 to do the Argons justice. I have a good wait ahead of me to scrape the funds…
TBH, I was set on the SP200 until the ā€˜can’t be unseen’ parallelogram shape was pointed out :sob:

The thx amps or if you want to keep it under $100 you can get the magni heresy.
