šŸ”· Modhouse ARGON MkIII

The Asgard 3 also is a good pick here

Have both (though I replaced the pads on my WH1000XM3 with Dekoni Leathers).

They’re pretty different sounding to me. The XM3 is generally darker in comparison, while bass on the Argons are cleaner, more impactful (with a powerful amp). The Argons aren’t neutral, but I really wouldn’t call them dark either. The width on the Argons are also much better than the XM3s.

@002 I highly recommend the Asgard 3 over the THX. For Argons, they only run properly with massive amounts of power thrown at them, and the Asgard 3 does just that. Tons and tons of pretty clean power. It is a great deal for the price of $200. Pretty much the best combo for Argons in the price range.

Thank you all for the input and suggestions.
Australia is weird…I can pick up a used Jotunheim on eBay for about $200 AUD less than buying a new Asgard 3 right now. The Asgard 3 (brand new) is also more expensive for me to obtain than either of the THX amps :confounded:
@Lel: How much do you find that the Dekoni pads change the sound of the XM3’s? I find the stock pads to be very comfortable and well suited already.

Sorry, maybe I’m going too far off topic…not sure how strictly that is moderated here

Not that strict lol

They definitely fixed the comfort, was the main reason I got them. As for the sound, the noise cancellation suffers noticeably and the bass thump is also reduced (which I actually kind of prefer). Lol

Been a while since I’ve posted here, but I’m considering buying the t60rp argons which don’t have a lot of reviews. If I do end up pulling the trigger on them I’d definitely do a comparison between the t50rp mk3 argon and the t60rp argon (haven’t found any online yet). We shall see… still enjoying my Argons tho, and choosing between getting a second svs pb1000 subwoofer for my HT system or the t60rp Argons has been a difficult decision for me. (Also been considering the Focal elex and the Neumann NDH20s). Thanks for all the likes on my mini-review btw! Happy listening!

I think the t60 argons are a bit clearer. I’d get the elex if you want something to compliment your argon mk3.

Nice! It would be awesome to have somebody who has both to compare them side by side. Good luck in your endeavors of finding a pair to buy.

I am so confused about the power requirements for these Argons…
I was watching Zeos’ latest review of the RebelAmp. I love oddly coloured gear so it caught my eye but when I read about the power output of it being 1000mW RMS per channel @ 32 Ohm I thought ā€œwell, this won’t be any good for the Argons but I’ll watch the video anywayā€ – then at ~14 minutes in he flicks it to high gain and plugs the T60’s in and gives the impression that it’s more than enough to drive them, even going so far as to say that they ā€œcould be the thing for people with T50s, T60’s, Argonsā€ (I’m paraphrasing a bit).

Is it just coming down to the fact to the high gain (11x) on the RebelAmp is impressive? I’ve already ordered the Asgard 3 anyway but I’m curious how many amps are legitimately capable of driving Argons to their full potential in the 300-500 USD price range?

Does anyone can help make my argons mk2 balanced

The argon power requirements are vastly overstated. You can run argon on a phone or something with not a bunch of power and be just fine. They do scale a bit better with more power but it’s really not needed. There are very few headphones that actually need as much power as they can get. The archel 2.5 pro can run the argon’s. Hell even the rnhp with it’s 230mw at 16 ohms can push them if you have enough gain. It really just scales well and that’s why people put more power on it. I think you made a great choice with the asgard 3, you should have no issues

Edit: So I should say that I personally prefer an amp with oomph with the argons for the best experience, so I would say try to aim for at or above the 1 watt at 32 ohms range just to ensure you will have no issues, but it depends on an amp by amp basis

I think the perfect budget suggestion for Argons would be the Magni Heresy Amp. This thing has 2.4W@32Ohms. And I can’t found anything that can beat it at this price. For ~$170 according to power only one can beat Magni, it’s Topping A50 that have the same 2.4W@32Ohms but for balanced output is 4.4W@64Ohms but output impedance is 9.4Ohms and I don’t know if it will affect Argons or not.

That amp is a good budget choice. However if you can extend your budget to about $200, the Asgard 3 is just a better amp overall, and still has that same huge power output.

Yes, that would mess with the argon’s a bit (not a ton though, as planar tend to be not as sensitive to output impedance unless it’s crazy high)

I think about this. It’s a perfect choice If I would live in US. But I live in Russia and since I want to order an amp + modi dac it will cost additional like ~$70 due to delivery and fees.

I think on the A3 you can also just add an AK4490 or True Multibit DAC module to go with it, and it would be one single order.

How much noise leak do the argons have compared to a fully open back like the 58x?

Little bit less but they are somewhat close, although I think you would have less leak at higher volumes than the 58x
