It’s a near certainty there will be a mkiv in the near future.

Does anybody have heard the argons and the denon ah-7200 and coukd give a brief comparison?

Well the august update spells it out, if I don’t get shipping notification by next week it won’t happen as they’re moving (like me)! This is edging into 18 weeks, by that update they’re a month behind which, as the original estimate was 12 weeks, seems optimistic.

Dude…I’m sorry. My optimism for their arrival is now disapated. That straight up sucks donkey dick. They are a great set of cans I hope they get to you soon.

I was dumb and didn’t buy the balanced mod of these. does someone here know if the DA_ART Aquilla II would drive these well in the SE configuration. I’m new to this world and I haven’t figured out how much power these require SE’d. Currently running these on a Liquid Spark and they sound good for sure but I know they would benefit from more power. I’m hoping the Aquilla II will be the endgame DAC/AMP for these and my DT 1990 Pro’s.

Appreciate your update. I was getting worried about my order now on week 13 with no response to the one email I sent requesting a change to my order.

Does anyone have the iFi Zen CAN along with the argons?

I just ordered the SMSL SP200 to go with my balanced Argons but was also very interested in the Zen CAN.

I can tell you that you won’t regret the SP200 with the Argons, that is for sure.

The Zen Can will do the Argons fine if you end up going that route.

So, just got everything today to drive a balanced Mk3 set. Wow, these things are great, the control and speed of the bass is nice. Although I’m not completely sold on them yet, and I think I prefer the X00s. I’m starting to think I only like the barest whiff of width, because these are wide but I’m interpreting it as hollow. Things that were originally produced with a ā€œwide soundā€ turn into ā€œrecorded in a bottleā€ to me.

Example would be: The acoustic guitar intro to KMFDM - WWIII, most of Atari Teenage Riot - Speed, most of Sublime - Doin’ Time, and White Zombie - Blood, Milk, and Sky (Miss September Mix).

My stack is: FLAC or Spotify Prem > Motu M2 > Schiit Magnius > Argon Mk3.

I am going to agree with @ZeosPantera here, I kind of wish I had gotten the Emotiva BasX A-100 for an amp, even if it’s not as good of a headphone amp. The Magnius should be able to put out 3.2W RMS @ 50ohm, so it should be enough in theory. What I’ve had to do though is to max out the Magnius, and use the M2 knob to mid-way to get them to drive correctly. I don’t like maxing out the Magnius like that.

I had been thinking about getting the Asgard, just to have a DAC too, but with 2.5W @ 50ohm, I don’t know it would have the balls. As @M0N has been saying it’s a good pairing with the Argons, it probably is fine.

I need more time to get to know the Argons, I just need to allow them to settle in and find their place.

Just wondering is this on high gain as well? You really shouldn’t have to do that lol. Ideally for your motu you should have that volume almost maxed on the interface imo

Yes, it is.

I get a completely different tonality when I do that, it’s more analytical, less warm. Playing with both of the knobs now, it’s strange…

When I max the Motu, and the Magnius to half, the bass steps back, the mids are more present and it’s more analytical.

When I max the Magnius and the Motu to half, the bass gets more full (want to say the bass ā€œcompletesā€), the mids muddy a little, and highs step ever so slightly back. It feels a little like the time I heard things on tubes.

That sounds more like what I’ve experienced with the magnius

Hmmm interesting, I haven’t had that happen before tbh, I did try controlling with a preamp and maxing the magnius but my result of that didn’t really change the sound that much. Honestly if you are wanting that more warmer and full sound, I would check out the asgard 3 if that’s more your style (although it’s still pretty dang clear and resolving). But that’s pretty strange that you get that large shift in sound

lol so as both knobs have a great feel, I spent time playing with it and found a nice middle ground. I’ll just think of each knob as tone control when on the Argons.

What I’m interpreting this as is that Argons need ALL THE POWER IN THE UNIVERSE to render bass correctly, so near maxing (85%-ish) the Magnius gives it the wattage the bass needs. Then pushing the Motu (70%-ish) gives enough information for the highs to be present.

Playing with both knobs though I found a good middle ground, that I’m starting to get happy with.

Just wondering is this a new argon? Since you might be going through burn in things as well. But imo they do appreciate power but don’t really need as much as people might say lol, you just have to get the right amp to pair well with them

:+1:

No, these are a pair FiCurious sold to me.

I think this is the part where it goes from Argon owners ā€œought to doā€ generally, to personal preferences with tone. Although I haven’t heard the Asgard and I’m new to audiophilia, so I defer to your experience.

Ah that’s right

I mean it’s generally correct that these things do appreciate extra headroom and oomhp behind them, just saying that the idea that you need something with like the emotiva (which would most likely be around like 6-8w at 50 ohms) to get a good experience isn’t true from my experience (because while you do get that extra headroom the sacrifice in other technicalities isn’t worth the trade off imo)
