šŸ”· Modhouse ARGON MkIII

Sadly I sent an email to cancel my order. I donā€™t expect to hear back and will file a chargeback if a couple days.

Holy shit they responded immediately. How unacceptable they never respond at all through months of waiting. This isnā€™t a sour taste in my mouth, itā€™s a bridge thatā€™s burned. I donā€™t care how they sound, mod house needs to invest in customer service or their products donā€™t matter.

Yeeeshā€¦ thatā€™s pretty rough. Sounds like a really sucky experience :x

Pretty quiet around these parts these days
Probably not too surprising since theyā€™ve stopped taking orders. An update on my order:

  • Ordered - 2020-02-17
  • Shipped to Me - 2020-06-12 (Just over 16 weeks)
  • Arrived to Me - 2020-07-21
  • Returned to Modhouse - 2020-08-06 (Defective)
  • Fixed and returned to me - 2020-10-06 (Ryan confirmed issue was bad jack)

Based on the tracking, Iā€™m anticipating I should get them this week ā€“ if that happens to be this Friday, it would be an 8 months total wait time

Jeezā€¦ That is quite insane. I really hope they were worth the wait!

Yeah me too!
Pretty wild how much of a difference UPS versus USPS makes in shipping time too. There was even a hiccup with the return as Modhouse put $0 as the value, yet it is still set to get to me in just over a week as opposed to over 5 weeks it took to arrive when sent via USPS initially.

Well, theyā€™re now back in AU safe and sound, and Iā€™m happy to report that the issue has indeed been solved. Iā€™ve been a long-time user of Audio Technica headphones primarily ā€“ not really giving much thought to other brands until I was compelled to get noise-cancelling headphones (Sonyā€™s WH-1000XM3) for work as a new staff member has some tics that I just couldnā€™t deal with hearing. I realised in short order that the Sonys have bass characteristics that are much more appealing to me than the ATā€™s and thus began the hunt for warmer cans to use at home.

Having used the Argons all day today (music and work meetings) I can safely say that they will be my new daily drivers. Theyā€™re super comfy, and the bass is tastefully elevated without being overpowering. Overall, Iā€™m very pleased and feel they were worth the wait. Mostly Iā€™m listening to FLAC on foobar and running them from the Asgard 3; in high gain mode, 10 oā€™clock feels perfect to me.

Iā€™d like to get a nice cable for them. For now Iā€™m using the stock black 6.5mm / 1/4" cable which is sufficient but seems to hold bends / kinks. Any recommendations are welcome.

Just got mine as well, feeling like the bass is pretty loud on some tracks but will withhold judgement until I can properly power them. Definitely super fun and thatā€™s what I wanted since analytical headphones are easy to find. For the price, great value.

For what music genres do they work the best?

Do they sound better on balanced ,single ended or same???

For me, balanced for sure. The MKIII with Protein pads are my second headphone ever when paired with the Auralic Taurus MKII & Bifrost 2. You get even more sound stage, more detail but you still get that 3D imaging and rumble.

Have you tried like one amp with both ends because I have heard that that it both ends are there on an amp then balanced is better but if itā€™s just single ended its the same

For me, these headphones are best for pop music and metal. Love listening to Stone Temple Pilots on these.

How aboot rock?

Right now there is a distinct difference from the balanced and single ended from the Auralic Taurus. Iā€™ve also heard this headphone with the RNHP, Topping DX7 Pro & Emotiva Bas-X (all only single ended). The balanced on the Taurus blows all other configs Iā€™ve tried away. Really improves the headphone in my humble opinion.

Give me an artist or two to try and Iā€™ll let you know. I think the closest thing I listen to that would be considered rock is Fleetwood Mac and Steve Miller Band? Iā€™ll check out some other suggestions and let you know.

Led zeppelin, ac dc
Also are they good for like casual gaming? Howā€™s their Soundstage?

Soundstage is very wide.

AC/DC is kicking me in the chest right now. The drums are amazing. Canā€™t imagine a human not being thrilled with the sound Iā€™m getting from this combo. (You shook me all night long, Back in Black)

Led Zeppelin sounds amazing too (admittedly donā€™t listen to much of them) (Dazed and Confused)

No distortion, guitars are thick and drums are impactful. Really good stuff.

Thatā€™s good to hear. Have you tried watching movies in them?

Ordered a pair of ZMF Auteur today with a ship time of 5-10 weeks. Should we bet whether or not they arrive before my MKiii Argons that I ordered on June 4th? Lol
