šŸ”· Modhouse ARGON MkIII

I also bought Smeggy Thunderpants no Iā€™m not trying to make a joke. Itā€™s another t50 mod but itā€™s all wood.they donā€™t exist anymore

I would buy it on the name alone

After Googling it I see that those wooden cups look gorgeous.

If your only previous headphones have been the AT M50x you should be careful because some of the headphones that you are looking for are not portable at all, even with a portable amp/dac. The fact that the AT can be folded, make them much more convenient to take them with you. When a big headphone is not foldable, it became a real issue to carry it around, even if you wear it, or you have a backpack.

I ordered the Argons Mk3 at the end of May, and they hace not arrived yet, but I doubt very much that they could be considered portable at all. I donā€™t see myself taking around the Fostex Th-00 Ebony, and they seem smaller than the Argons. Even the CFA Cascades, considered portables, would be a pain to be around with, the box is really big, like a big part of a backpack would be occupied by the headphones box.

If you are wearing the headphones a lot in different situations, then sound quality is not as relevant as you might think, and some quality life improvements might be worth it. Look for something light, portable, well build. I donā€™t see the Meze 99 like a good thing to take to study at the university. Even when the Audiotechnica might be a good option, the Meze are a very different thing with that headband.

When I am at home I prefer to use bigger over the ear headphones, and when I am outside I prefer to use IEMS (Blon Bl03 or Thieaudio Clairvoyance).

I would like that the Drop Panda THX would be better on some things, but maybe they can be a good option for you, look for them, they are some kind of ā€œaudiophileā€ alternative to the over the hear portable headphones.

thanks for the advice. I just orderd the dt 177x, I have a big handbag with plenty of space so hoping size wont be a problem.

I think that the 177x is a very good option, they are very well build, and they do not differ too much from more portable options. Much better than the Argons or the Meze 99.

Reagarding portable Dac/Amp. One of the best options are the Btr or Qudelix. There are tons of reviews out there, with the Qudelix having a good advantage when it comes to the possibility of EQing with their app. I ended buying a Hidizs S9 Pro, has not arrived yet, letā€™s see how it performsā€¦

T50rp build Smeggy Thunderpants. They got wierd pads

Those pads look really thinā€¦what do they sound like?

So far Iā€™m finding that they are not thick like Argon 3 and if you cover the ports it kills the bass. They sound good except Iā€™m looking for thicker pads so I ordered a few of ebay for cheap to test out. I like it when I put the super think T50RP stock pads over the existing ones.

This gives a good distance from the driver
Hereā€™s the port

I wanted a pair of these so bad back in the day.

Iā€™m finding the right pads for the Thunderpants I got TH500 pads from Fostex. The TH500 pads took the little bass it had and shot it through the stratosphere not. I many more pads on the way.

So, is it difficult to find and to change pads on the Modhouse Argon MKIII? I assume it is easy, but maybe from the EU is worse. Have I read that they use ZMF pads?

I am asking because I ordered them at the end of May, and they have emailed me saying that they are having delays on getting the Protein pads, and they offer to put the suede pads (I think that they are the ones recommended for the TR60), the Lamskin, or just wait for the Proteins.

Ryan says that the Suede have a very similar sound as the Proteins, just less treble and less mid bass, but it wouldnā€™t be very noticeable unless doing AB testingā€¦

I donā€™t know exactly what to do, but if it is easy to get pads in the future, maybe I just go with the Suede and will experiment with different pads in the future. It is always a somewhat fun thing to do

I have the suede on my t60 and like them a lot
Otherwise the pad change isnā€™t to complicated simply stretch the pad a bit before and then slot one side in the ring and then work your way around for the last bit youā€™ll have to stretch the pad a bit but donā€™t worry Iā€™ll hold up :stuck_out_tongue:
For other options well letā€™s just say everything is better than the stock pads XD
I personally like also some perforated leather pads

Hi Everyone,
Now that I ordered my Argons, Iā€™m looking at amps. I think I want to go for the Topping A50S and run it balanced. That still leaves me with finding a suitable cable (3.5mm hooked to 4.4mm). Im from EU and cant seem to find a company that sells these. Anyone had the same problem?

Warning to UK buyers as expected charged Ā£64 import duty so what we save on the exchange rate we pay in taxes grrrr

When do you say ā€œsells theseā€ do you mean the headphones or the amplifier?

The Modhouse are a Fostex TR50 modification that can only be purchased on their webpage. They open very few spots to be bought and they take a long waiting time.

They ship Worldwide, but you have to pay tariffs. You would pay VAT if you are in the EU, so that shouldnā€™t be a big thing. Just add some margin to tā€™he price.

They are talking about a company that sells the 3.5 to 4.4 cable, not the headphones. Looks like they are trying to prepare for getting the argonā€™s that have already been ordered.

First afternoon with my Argon Mk3sā€¦
As expected mids slightly recessed but warm detailed bass that surprisingly isnā€™t overpowering.
