Iām using a Geshelli Jnog1 with the Amanero USB module and enjoy it very much. I use it with my Liquid Platinum and Asgard 3. Geshelli products are generally pretty well received around here. They are a relatively small operation with great customer service.
It was $250 (200 without usb), but the current model, Jnog2, is $300 with the USB module (250 without). The difference between them is J1 used an AKM dac chip and the new one uses a ESS dac chip.
@Multibeast@ShaneD Currently debating the SMSL SU-9 vs the Geshelli J2. $390 (amazon) vs $300.
Genuinely pretty unsure on the difference between the two. Just going off of aesthetic I feel myself leaning towards the SU-9. Not the biggest fan of how much the SU-9 brags about MQA, but I almost want to get it just so I can say it doesnāt mean shit.
Also, super appreciate the opinions and assistance. Pretty burned out after that Asgard 3 experience and trying to not make any rash decisions.
I have no experience with Geshelli, but have heard nothing but good about them. I avoided them earlier because they werenāt doing USB out, but I think they are now.
That SU-9 is a big price jump over the SU-8.
Love those new Geshelli wood cases, but theyāre probably more expensive.
If it were me, I would probably go with Geshelli w/USB. I have spoken to them and they seem like nice people. You buy somewhat local and itās cheaper.
Appreciate it. Iāll likely go with a charcoal J2 and just go full balanced. Already have the hart audio stuff for it (save the T60RP part, but just ordered it).
They do offer additional case and faceplate colors if you contact them directly they will help you out. I canāt remember the ladies name at customer service but she was very helpful and pointed me in the direction of this color scheme. Money green with aqua faceplates. Super happy with the jnog and Geshelli!
I donāt think itās too bad at all. I paid about $250.00 for an SMSL SU-8 one to two years ago. And I think the custom colours are Very cool. I liked their stuff back then, but no USB was a deal breaker for me.
But you can try a Modi and see how you like it. It certainly is a lot cheaper.
None of their DACās had USB. Even now itās a $50.00 option. $300.00 doesnāt sound bad to me.
Of course there are cheaper Chinese options.
And there is the Modi.
T60RP Argons arrived, 15 weeks after ordering. Emailed twice, once on week 13 just politely asking for a rough ETA, and then again on week 14, which they already had it ready to go. Very happy with Modhouse!
Only have them hooked up to the Magni 2 right now, still waiting on the Liquid Platinum and Geshelli J2. Probably going to be 2-3 weeks for the J2 (Order form only says estimated 15 business days for shipping) - the LP should get here tomorrow, along with cables from Hart Audio for the Argon.
They are insanely comfortable and iām extremely impressed off the bat. Donāt have a ton of time to dip in and do side by side comparisons yet.
Playing Halo Infinite was impressive, but I didnāt do any A/B with my 6xx or Nighthawk Carbons. Reluctant to spend too much time comparing on my Magni 2.
They are good for FPS, but I donāt reach for them when I do play FPS. For that I use my He400i 2019 editions that I pad swapped. The argons have better sound placement for sure, but due to how open the 400iās are I find them to edge out the argons. I would say that the 400iās are neutral bright, light and airy good for vocals. where as the argons are very neutral V shape and are not airy but thick and fun.
