Modhouse T60rp Argon

Argon owners. How would you say these headphones stack up to others in the price range?

Hard to answer as sound wise they blow most anything in there cost price bracket away. But there is a few issues, in that supply is low and there is a massive waiting period to get a set built. IIRC Ryan makes them as a side gig and its just him and his wife. And there sound flavor is very different from most other items in there price bracket so one can’t say the Argons just sound better.

What other headphones have you used previously just for reference?

Meze 99 noir, HE 400i 2019 ed, ATH-M40x, and Night Hawks.

I really like them. They are a keeper and a really good value. They require a good amount power and really like bass boost.

I am in Canada and the landed cost was very close to what I just paid for some Elegia’s.

I have the Schiit Heresy which is one of the amplifiers that they actually recommend for the Argons. The gigantic pads and headstrap are drawing me in.

I have never heard the Heresy.

Happy matching!

I already have VC. If I purchase Argons would it be a downgrade? I love deep sub bass and was thinking about T50 Argons.

Does anyone have idea how would they compare with zeus?

Unlisted vid because i will redo later but since few vids are out there I’ll share mine.
Love this set :two_hearts:

How do they compare to argon mk3 and zeus?

Hey guys.

I just received the t60 argon and so far I love them. The wood, the built is incredible.

About the sound It is actually brighter than I thought. Like approaching DT1990 bright but sound very clean otherwise. The mid is very smooth and not very forward which is what I like the most about these. The bass I feel like it is less than I thought I would be, maybe because it’s a planar so it lacks the punch of something like the 1990. Technicality wise it’s sufficiently detail for the price with wide, clean soundstage. It trade a little bit of dynamic and texture for some smooth and clean sound.

I’m looking to add another pair of pads that lower the treble and boost the subbass a little bit. Any suggestions? I’m looking at the zmf cowhide or the Dan Clark Alpha pads

Everybody says the Alpha pads are the best for taming the treble and increasing dynamics on these headphones.

Very interesting that you compare it to the Meze Empyrean in the video. Care to share a little more about how you think the two compare?

That rhymed.

I really enjoy the sound. I don’t find them bright at all, but I do find them a bit sharp, in a good way.

For the first few weeks I wasn’t sure, but every time I go back to them, I seem to like them more. They do need a good bit of power and they really step up with some bass boost.

I can echo this. I’ve bass boosted Nighthawk Carbons and while they thump really hard, the T60RP Argon’s bass when boosted is just insanely satisfying in comparison. (though not quite as strong) - I’m an absolute bass whore, so what I consider to be “really hard thump” on the nighthawk carbons might not be appealing to others lol

My only real frame of reference is these two, and the 6xx which literally has zero bass.

Yeah, sharp is a good way to describe it, remind me of my dt1990. I think my amp (xduoo xd05 plus) is powerful enough since it’s plenty loud at 1 o’clock. Which is wierd since my dt1990 is usually at 12. I thought the t60 argon would require more than that. And yeah bass boost on them is delicious

What did you use to bass boost? I have the stock t60rps and was wondering if you boosted via eq software on a laptop, via amp or both?

Would be nice if there was a way to list out everyone’s ear pad suggestion and it’s impacts? Can anyone python that shit?

New to over $100 headphones and I am currently running them on my Yamaha as-801 And sound great. I am going to compare them to some others i have for demoing before keeping only one. Zeus, ATH m50x, Ath msr7b, sundara, and Beyer DT-990 Pro 250 ohms.

I am a bass head but I love to pick out vocals and instrumentals when I dive into other genres.

@AGsMryGoRnd I use Peter’s Equalizer APO Config Extension (peace)

I put a low shelf filter at 120hz and boost the bass by 6-12db depending.

Not entirely sure if thats “perfect” - I only did an hour or so of research to figure out how to set all that up.
