đŸ”¶ Monoprice Monolith M570

out of curiousity what aspects did you hate about the 4xx?

I found them very unclear. Lots of bass, but very unrefined. As a guy that loves vocals, sax, etc. I found them unlistenable.

When I first owned the Oppo’s I Really liked them but after a few months they weren’t doing anything for me. They had gotten boring, comparitively.

I bought a “clump” of 'phones in the fall of 2017 and ran them for the winter:
HD6XX’s, Grado SR325e’s, Oppo PM3’s (used) and Meze 99 Classic’s. Then come Spring I knew what I liked and I culled the herd.

Is it possible I just don’t care for the sound of planars? I would never again touch the previous two that I owned.

hmm thats strange probably a faulkty pair. I find my 4xx to be very W shaped in frequency response lots of subbass but dips in the mid bass comes back in the mids very good for male vocals percusion as well as piano songs like Regina spektor. but it is possible your just not into planars because they do seemt o have a pretty unique characteristics that I personally can’t explain but its different

Yeah, it seems that you don’t enjoy the sound signature of most planars perhaps. I think the 570 is going to be more “clear” sounding, but I don’t know if you would enjoy it imo based on what you have and what you have said

I am just tempted because of the sale price on Amazon.ca. I should just put the item down and back away slowly

Well there is nothing wrong with trying it lol. I would assume it’s free returns as well

amazon returns is very good here as long as you dont abuse it

Maybe will just hold off for a while until the bigger boys come out and read some reviews. My next expensive (for me) headphones will be the Elex’s.

Just seems to be a lot of buzz about these headphones and my curiosity has been piqued. I really need to find a hobby that doesn’t include shopping.

Selling mine on eBay. Hit me there. Accepting offers

on Drop are now the Elex pads for 60 instead of 100
with shipping at april 1st

Do you think the pads will require replacement in the short term?

If you treat them well no. It’s just a good idea to pick up a pair when they are that cheap

I had promised myself that I was done shopping.
And I don’t even own them yet

I will always have a minimum of four pairs of headphones on the go. And once I get back into the workforce, I will only be using headphones on the weekends.

Yes, I think I’ll skip this purchase.

Sennheiser HD 600 - had it for some time and had it exclusive worn - but no problem with the quite cheap original replacement pads for them

the Focals pads are a bit pricey in general - the Elex pads are still nothing, if you compare it to the 250$ utopia pads for example
for focals itÂŽs not recommended to use third party pads

The main reason why I recommend you try and get them if you can is in case they stop being sold

In case 3 break and you have a headphone emergency, you still have that fourth pair.

I really can’t make fun, though. I’m down to 4 and I’m a little worried.

Oh, wait! My gaming set is a DT880 with a mic attached. If we count that then I’m over the crucial 4 pair threshold.

Whew! :grin::laughing:

It is just a good number for me. I Love open back, which are my Grado’s. I think the Elex may be as good, in a different way.

I need closed back as my wife is not a quiet person. Whether it’s yakking at me or to someone else or on the phone or watching TV. The Beyer’s take care of this beautifully.

Lastly I need some cheaper closed backs for road duty. If I know I am going to spend an hour at Motor vehicles or some other appointment, the 99 Classic’s are perfect: easy to drive, look great and not so expensive that I worry about losing or damaging them. In my last job I would wear them for my one hour lunch as I cruised the web.

Plus the electrostatics just to change it up. :slightly_smiling_face:
