Once I got my home theater set up, I kind of stopped caring about headphones, no headphone can reproduce what big speakers and subwoofers can do. I’d rather spend the money I’d spend on a $500+ headphone on a new receiver so I can upgrade to Atmos.
I’m still waiting on getting a good tube amp. I’m in between the woo audio w6, tuba, and the feliks audio espressivo or echo. One of these days. I need one for my Aeolus too. But I want one that’s more neutral leaning I feel.
Speakers >> Headphones.
If you can control the room, but I personally don’t have a dedicated listening room anymore, and headphones can be a great experience, they just aren’t speakers.
The Tuba is pretty dry.
I like mine a lot with the Eikon, I actually prefer my Aeolus on SS usually my Whammy, they are such smooth sounding headphones I prefer the bite of SS.
I’m just going to say I have had people get more excited over the nighthawk than something like the 007mk2 when they have tried them lol. Really depends on the person. Some can differentiate the higher end, and some just don’t for some reason
Nice. I really want to try an atmos setup or the klipsch is what I’d want. Maybe when I finish my basement I’ll put up a few grand to get it done.
But I feel ya. Everyone has they’re preference. I’m more headphone leaning I think. Maybe it’s because the intimacy they provide. Or maybe it’s because I can blast them at night without waking up the kids and the lady lol. Who knows.
But mark my words. I will have that atmos setup one day. It’ll be my first real dive into speakers other than my sonos I have set up all over the house. (But I don’t count them, I just like their Convenience And my brother in law gets me 40 percent off on them.
That makes sense and is kinda why I’ve worried about tubing them even though I hear all zmfs are better on tubes. I kinda feel they need a little extra crunch up top lol.
No thats not what im talking about. being impressed by a headphone and a headphone that makes you cry are 2 different things. I went from the HD600 and 650 being impressed. then the Sundara’s made me cry like a baby. then the Aiva, then Elex then Arya. now im all out of tears. but i bet the Abyss 1266 will refill the well
Yeah I think it just depends on the sound signature. You could try a 2000 dollars set of cans And like your 200 dollar pair more if it suits your sound preference. Esoecially if you’re not someone who can identify all the other things going on in the headphones.
My home theater is a living room that opens to my kitchen so it’s a uncontrolled room, but it has pretty good accustics, of course it’s not a treated room or anything, but it has pretty minimal slap echo at the coutch and mesuered better than expected, part of the reason I think why is because the couch is pretty close to the speakers and acts as a huge absorber the back wall is pretty far from the speakers so the echo coming back is minimal and the area where the speakers sit is carpeted. Of course if you sit the dinner table by the backwall of the room you get a ton of bass coming back at you room the wall but that’s not really a problem and is fun for guest at dinner party because it’s like being at a EDM concert the seat near the corner in particular is very bass intensive.
I’ve had a person come over and try the Warwick, and their reaction was pretty meh lol, then they tried the ad1000x and they were infatuated with it lol. It really just depends on the person
To be fair I do have a dedicate HT room with 104” projector, but it’s not something I’d listen to music on.
In my case it was either dedicated HT (which my wife enjoys), or stereo.
A decent surround system can’t be done on headphones, but the compromises aren’t conducive to me wanting to listen to music with the same system.
Yeah to be honest, just from what I’ve read, I’ve always had a feeling I wouldn’t care for the hd800 if I ever heard it. I still would love to audition them but i I have a feeling they’re never something I’d buy.
Ya I understand that, but once you get a good speaker system with proper amplification, you’ll have a hard time being satisfied by headphones they just can’t generate the sound stage Separate speakers can and the feeling of the music happening in front of you not in your head. Headphones start to become a compromise when you compare them to speakers not matter how good they are. It’s a never ending snow ball of more and more money.
Pic is of my right front LCR
Daaaaaaaaaaaang yeah I’ll get a good system one day. I still thing that headphones will always offer things that speakers can’t do I dunno if I’d ever lose my interest in them. People don’t buy 1000 to 3000 dollar headphones for no reason lol. There’s people that’ll take 5-800 dollar speaker setup over 3000 dollar headphone and vice versa. They both have their place. I think I’m honestly more excited for a good speaker system for their home theater capabilities than music. But I’ll for sure enjoy my music on them as well.
I think I’ll save up and just go all out for that 11.2 klipsch setup when I’m ready. Knock it out all at once and just drool on my couch. After the basement again of course. I’m redoing AC in my whole house in 2 weeks and the guy is adding it to my basement too so it’s ready to go when I finish it. So I’ll also have to wait till I replenish my money from that 15,000 dollar expense lol. One day.
What speakers are you using? I used mine all the time for music I think they are great. My dream for 2 ch is a set of Martin Logan electrostatic speakers, but fuuuuuck are they expensive, I heard their bottom of the line ElectroMotion ESL at best buy and when I got in my car to go home I thought my car speakers had blown out, the difference was that drastic can’t get that sound out of my head.
accuracy is what you give up with speakers because the driver is not 1 in from you head, don’t get me wrong they still both and always will have trade off, it’s more of a matter of are you a speaker guy or a headphone guy. I personally like both but I lean towards my speakers (that could also be down to the fact my speakers are way better than any headphone I own) but then their are headphone only guys who have no interest in speakers. then there are the weird boomerphiles that are only interested in 2ch speakers and have no interest in surround sound, sub woofers or headphones and will spent $2500 for a cable that “gives them better bass” when a sub would have actually done that for them for a lot less.
Boomerphiles lol. I love that but I do like 2 channel speakers just fine. It seems like most prefer high end 2 channels to surround but I’d go with surround for movies as they’d do fine in music I feel. But yeah I like both overall. I’ve just invested more in headphones so far. I’m opposite of you lol. I own much better phones than speakers at the moment.
That never made since to me really because you can literally have both, you just budget more money towards you L and R speakers.
