My introduction to hifi

Now that you mention it, I should probably say as a disclaimer, that you might want to turn down your volume if you’re going to click it.

Haha no worries. I’m good at turning down volume with anything and adjusting usually. I’ve been surprised too often haha

I did receive my amp today as expected and will be listening to it. What would you say is the recommended amount of time to listen to a headphone at different intervals between the range 80-100 decibels without hurting your ears? From an app on my phone, it shows me usually having my music at 80-86 decibels.

You really want to stay below 90 to avoid damage

On low gain, I’m good at around 2:30, and on high gain it’s around 11.

Perfect. What do you think of the sound so far?

I can tell there is definitely a difference, just isn’t as vast of one as I was imagining. I’m going to try to be specific whenever I try to detail the sound later on, but for now I notice a few added things I didn’t hear before, but it’s very slight, I would think surely some of the instruments I’m hearing sound more natural than before, but I can’t guarantee that yet, there is a little bit of slam to the beats of highs, there is more texturing on instruments, I’m not sure as idk what instrument separation is really suppose to sound like, but I think I hear the biggest difference in that. I really get the feeling that the sound stage is the slightest bit wider or the exact same as my air pods which I really wasn’t expecting, or maybe it is wider but I just don’t notice it? So far I’ve still only heard everything from left to right.

I also meant to mention that there are a few instances I’ve come across before in a song where something really quiet in the background that sounds like it may not even belong in the song will sound super far away. It makes me wonder why it sounds so far away but nothing else ever does.

Haha well you’re doing better than me!. I’m not the best and using any of the technical terms. I guess I’m better at explaining than I used to me, at least in those terms. All that matters is that you enjoy them . The best tell for me is when I’m excited to listen to all my playlists to hear every song. The more you get into it, which sadly means the more money you drop into the hobby lol, the more you will pick up on different things. It can also always depend on the exact songs or genre you listen to in my opinion. Some stuff, you may not pick up on much, but in other songs, especially well produced music woth a lot going on, you will notice even more.

I think it’s almost good exercise to own pairs that contrast the sound signature you typically go for to some extent, then you can hear differences to a greater degree, almost like training your ears to an extent. But over all, like I said, the more you listen, the better you get at picking things up. Also why some people who have never listened to higher or medium end headphones, may notice a difference, but still not understand what those differences are or why nerds like use appreciate them.

It’s really is a fun hobby! Always exploring and learning more

If you were to plug a balanced jack into an unbalanced output, would it work the same as if you were plugging an unbalanced cable into it, and can you put a balanced jack into a unbalanced adapter and plug it into a unbalanced output?

So you can safely convert a balance cable to single ended no problem, but I would not recommend converting balanced to single ended as that can cause issues with the amp and headphones

I think you said the same thing twice there, or I don’t get it.

So balanced to single ended is just fine.

But single ended to balanced is not ok.

You cannot plug a single ended headphone into a balanced output with an adapter

Ok, got it.

To be clearer you can convert a balanced headphone cable to single ended.
YOU SHOULD NOT convert a single ended headphone cable to balanced.
When you plug the latter into an amp, you can short the amp out.
